If you havent got tax dont drive it... your insurance would be void for a start...

Get a taxi or walk...

Yeah i am not purposely driving without tax, likes of the post office should be open 7 days a week cause people do buy cars on weekends and your pretty much buggered if it doesnt have tax stupid really cause they have such tight rules on the matter but dont seem tohave anyway around my situation

They assume that most people would have taken this into account when buying a car... most second hand cars are sold with tax... if it doesn't have it, collect it on a trailer, and keep it off the road until your tax is sorted...

It's not worth the risk of driving illegally without tax and void insurance... if you caused an accident your screwed...

Use public transport for the weekend... and get it sorted out first thing on tuesday morning :)

Tax can be bought online. As long as you have paid for it online it will show up as being taxed if the police pull you over and do a check. This was what i was told neway, may wanna read everything carefully thou just to make sure.

Tosspot:

Using one from another car is stupid... as the only way they know your tax is out of date is from number plate checks on the DVLA computer.. police don't actually go around spying tax disks... and it is probably worse than not having tax at all...

How can he claim to not realise? he has posted it on a public forum for everyone to see....? don't be so irresponsible...

It might be an inconveniece yes, but it's only two days...

On a sunday afternoon when the supermarkets have all closed.. if i realise i needed to get something i don't break in and go and help myself... it's the same logic.. it's still a crime...

Sounds technicaly legal to drive then but not sure how the old bill would stand if they pulled you over for having no tax disk. If you do intend to drive it, i would print that page out and take it with you just incase.

You could ask the previous owner if you could buy the remained of the tax year back?

Technically, plate checkers etc. would see the vehicle as being taxed... but i think according to the highway code it is an offense not to display a valid tax disk...

Good luck getting it sorted bud..

If your unlucky and get stopped i think you can get done for not displaying it in the screen. I would leave the car parked up until tuesday when you can get it sorted.;) Have you sold the VTS then, what is the new run around ??:p

when i bought tax online i had to wait 5 days for it to be delivered, think the site said to have a print out of the receipt of the transaction with you in the car just incase untill the disc arrives

BULLSHIT - driving without tax DOES NOT invalidate your insurance.

Should have asked the guy to pop to the post office with you to get tax :). It sucks though especially on a back holiday weekend!

I drove about in my VTS for over a month before i realised the tax had ran out. Checked my V5, as i was worried that i didnt get a reminder, and it turns out the V5 was in my old address that i hadnt lived at for over 7 months, whoops! Anyway, its changed now but luckly enough i never got charged.

BULLSHIT - driving without tax DOES NOT invalidate your insurance.

It most likely does... it depends on your insurance policy wording...

Insurance covers you for driving your car, as stated in the policy..

Driving without tax is illegal... and insurance only covers you when driving legally...

It varies from company to company... but i guarantee you they wouldn't pay out if you made a claim...
