anyway its quite a few years old and the paint has faded being in red. what i want to know is what can i use to bring the colour back to life? there also been scratches and dents over the years so i want to make look alot more rspectable so

knocking out dents? what can use, will i fuck it up etc?
paints faded? what can i use to get it back?
also i want to give it a good seeing too :P so want the swirls and shit like that taken out. can this easily be done?
what stuff do i need and where do i get it from please. i really want a mitten so i feel part of the gang

cheers ill add if ive missed something

edit. also the beast is running steel wheel, how would i clean these up a goodin. refurb or what?

Call up a decent bodyshop mate as they are pros an will do a much better job than T-cut products from Halfords on a sunday afternoon, although iv herd they're pretty good lol :P.

From personal experience: pay the money and u'll see the results fella, post up progress of how it goes. Come on the Hilux!!! RB

you could but it might crack the paint. Best to get a pro to take out the dinks. If you're going to do it yourself, heat the panel up first as this will minimise the chance of it cracking..

Best advice is to leave the dents. You can pop them back out from the inside but it depends how worth while it will be, you could get dent devels or the like to do it for you. If you do put them out and the pannel is creased you may make it worse by cracking the paint off.

paints faded? what can i use to get it back?
Best thing to use if you don't want to splash out on a PC and all the kit is Autoglym Super Resin polish on a german applicator pad. Do a few polishes with that, then follow up with autoglym extra gloss protection, then use a wax... i would suggest collinite 476 as it is super durable so will not need to be topped up for a few months... seeing as this is not your main driver this will probably be idea.

also i want to give it a good seeing too so want the swirls and shit like that taken out. can this easily be done?
You can't get the swirls or marring out using hand polishing methods, unless you can spin at 2000+ rpm. Best thing is a porter cable polisher. Then the next best is a filler polish... which Autoglym Super Resin Polish is.

what stuff do i need and where do i get it from please.
collinite 476 can be bought from www.cleanandshiny.co.uk for about £15. SRP can be bought in halfords or look online.

i really want a mitten so i feel part of the gang
Buy a wash mitt then, lambs wool or sheep skin are idea.

edit. also the beast is running steel wheel, how would i clean these up a goodin. refurb or what?
Best thing for this would be wire brush them down and then get the looking good like that, then primer, paint, and laqure, but you need to use some pretty durable stuff to make the finish last.

i work in a body shop and we always get people bringing thier cars in to be sorted out after they tried D.I.Y'ing it and making a complete mess, someone tryed aereol spraying their door on a escort it was amparo blue and didnt match for S**t. i had to strip the door right down back to bear metal because our paint would not go over theirs without reacting,
Dont do it yourself!!!! ;)

Check the porter cable videos in the sticky in this section mate. They should help.

www.autopia-carcare.com is the best place to buy them from. You will also need a transformer.

barrett
8th May 2007, 22:24
as above its a random orbital polisher, safer than a rotary polisher as it is less likely to burn through the clear coat, and it is easier to use properly.

The cost of the PC unit is £70, then you have pads, polish, buffing towels, transformer etc ontop of that.

sim69er
9th May 2007, 15:28
what about using a red turtle magic colour wax cheaper option

Ste

That should do it....we are talking about a hilux here

bullit
9th May 2007, 18:30
spot on ste :)

right then, to recap

i have a dented scratched faded hilux.

im assuming i get the dents out first :) and the scratches. talking of which there is quite a few. could i actually touch these up myself or?
then give it the full monty with a pc which ill order. and talking of order, will the full pack on the link have everything i need? or can someone list everything please :P and a rough price?

so i wont need the polisher but would i need the wax or will taht come with it?
i take it you mean transformer as in 110v box which i have anyway.

can you tell im new to this, want to make a mint job though.

edit. just read a post on a group buy, true?

Predator_R32
9th May 2007, 18:53
with the porter cable, get the sfx kit, you get all the pads with it and a few microfibre bonnets to buff up

but this is what you will need seperately

transformer to step down the voltage about 40 quid
extension and a few site plugs to plug into transformer
swirl removers
polish
wax
sealent
clay bar and lube

bullit
9th May 2007, 19:16
lube aye ;)

so how much we looking?

when you say polish, wax etc, which stuff do i want? can i get that from the same place as the pc. also the transformer and bits, same place? cheers

so all thos stuff will bring back the original colour?

Predator_R32
9th May 2007, 19:19
well tbh its best to get on detailing world and ask people on there on what polish etc to get

im into poorboys stuff, just got some SSR 2.5 swirl remover, Pro Polish, and the EX-P sealent, also have some p100s wax to go on

clay the car first before pc ing it as it will take all contaminents off and also any old wax/polish off

for the PC, transformer and cable and plugs id say around 200 max, get in on the group buy for pc, screwfix for the transfomer its 52 delivered but theres a discount code to get a tenner off, and the extension and plugs id just get from screwfix too unless the bloke on detailing worls has some of these left, basically hard wires into the pc

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p305/Predator_VTR/DSCF00042.jpg
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p305/Predator_VTR/DSCF0008-3.jpg

bullit
9th May 2007, 19:50
i take it thats just a 110v lead, and the transformer you need is 110v? :)

Predator_R32
9th May 2007, 19:52
yeah mate yellow is usually 110 volt :y: theres actually only the one transformer on screwfix so cant go wrong

bullit
9th May 2007, 20:11
i read youre previous post wrong, lol

i already have the leads and tranny, so all i need is pc sfx kit. link to group buy? just seen it.

so pred will this work wonders on my faded paint? :)

Clone
9th May 2007, 20:32
I would get one if i had the transformer/extension.... yea built, it should work pretty well on your paint... Watch some of the videos it shoes you how to use it properly also.

Predator_R32
9th May 2007, 21:24
will work wonders mate trust me :y:

bullit
9th May 2007, 21:43
transformer to step down the voltage about 40 quid
extension and a few site plugs to plug into transformer
swirl removers
polish
wax
sealent
clay bar and lube

so thats everything i need? the swirl removers come with the kit yeah? i take it claybar, sealant and lube is all the same as in same stuff from anywhere?

barrett
10th May 2007, 07:50
no you need to buy swirl remover polish.

When you place the order you can order other stuff from Autopia (cheap as chips with the exchange rate and the fact they are american).

I would advise some microfibre buffing towels in the collection also.

Predator_R32
10th May 2007, 13:32
microfibre cloths are a must, ive just bought some ultra soft one but have a load of them in my cupboard, i wish i bough some extra stuff from autopia when i made my order now but i have all the stuff now :y: and as mike said the exchange rate is relly good at the minute so theres some bargains to be had :y:

bullit
10th May 2007, 16:32
barret if you give me a list ill order it.

pred says to go on detailing world to see whats the best polish for me or would you know whats best to use?

also what wax, sealant, lube and clay bar shall i order? also i want a mit thing. that everything?

also if theres a new model coming out. try and be cheeky and get some more discount ;)

bullit
10th May 2007, 17:44

Predator_R32
10th May 2007, 22:27

http://lifehacker.com/software/macgyver/macgyver-tip-fix-a-dent-with-canned-air-and-a-hair-dryer-254575.php

for the wax etc, id ask some of the boffins on detailing world for sure, Dave KG is your man :p

bullit
10th May 2007, 22:30

ah lovely. so all of that then i just then need the correct polish?

Predator_R32
10th May 2007, 23:05
well the polish/swirl removers yes, claying is really important before pc'ing a car, wash mitts and the drying towel will reduce the chance of scratch marks, the wax sealent will give better protection and the microfibre cloths are a must :p

also use the 2 bucket method and use a foam lance or a glimour if you have one :y:

bullit
11th May 2007, 06:02
youve listed the swirl removers yes? or should check out some others or better yet you could mention my little project to dave :P:P

Predator_R32
11th May 2007, 12:38
yeah sonus swirl removers 1 2 and 3 will work gret with the pc :y:

just get registered on it mate, there are lot of helpful people on there, just send some pics of the condition of the car etc, but the sonus stuff i listed will do the job just as good

bullit
12th May 2007, 13:40
hello

get both megs #80 & #83 to remove swirls and give a nice deep shiny finish.

for the wax step i would say go for collinite 476s as it is very long lasting and a perfect match for a hard working pick up.

the other items you have listed are spot on

.................

bullit
12th May 2007, 13:44
so where looking at

megs 80 and 83 for polish

will i need both the polishers aswell as the swirl removers pred cause the answer was given to say that the polish would remove swirls. im confused?

Predator_R32
12th May 2007, 16:02
seems good to me mate :y: but i already listed swirl removers, the megs ones are about the same its up you though both will do the same job, the wax yes too, i think i listed a sealent to use too, basicaly swirl removers, polish then the wax then the sealent

bullit
12th May 2007, 18:04
your confusing me more now, lol

so which swirl removers am i having and which polish am i having?

if megs are swirl removers whats my polish?

hesslevtr
12th May 2007, 18:13
polish is like a swirl remover

there are dedicated swirl removers as these are more abrasive then normal polish

id sugest something from the menenza range for polish/swirl remover

Predator_R32
12th May 2007, 18:18
yeah paul but he is ordering with the pc and the exchange rate is good and the only polish on autopia is sonus really :y:

hesslevtr
12th May 2007, 18:21
yeah paul but he is ordering with the pc and the exchange rate is good and the only polish on autopia is sonus really :y:

ahhh right didnt read about that

id maybe get the megs stuff from there

ohhh i see autopia has a slae on do i or dont i

bullit
12th May 2007, 18:23
so out of that list hessle can you write what exactly i need.
detailing world recommeded me the megs 80- 83.ive posted in the newbie section if you could have alook :)

pred you didnt list a sealant mate

ps. i wandered where youd been paul :)

Predator_R32
12th May 2007, 18:26
lol yeah thats right i listed a wax doh :p

yeah hess theres a sale on wish it was on when i got my pc i would of bought a load more stuff

bullit
12th May 2007, 18:27
so wax and sealant is the same thing?, lol

Predator_R32
12th May 2007, 18:31
yeah if you read the label on polish it is like a mild swirl remover but isnt that effective by hand much better with a pc, the actual swirl removers will polish out much greater swirl marks

the way im gonna do it is

sonus paint cleanser (free with pc kit)
SSR 2.5 poorboys
pro prolish poorboys
p21s wax
ex-p poorboys sealent :y:

bullit
12th May 2007, 18:35
right totally clear now

so can you put a list up again then if im to get the megs stuff. also can i get that wax that was recommended form the same place. i feel like im being a pain now. ill owe you one :p

Predator_R32
12th May 2007, 18:40
well the megs stuff is good but there exactly the same what ive listed its up to you which one you get, sonus or megs, the megs are more expensive

bullit
12th May 2007, 18:47
ok so if i go with what youve said, i will still need a all out polisher.

Predator_R32
12th May 2007, 18:49
all out polisher?? you mean the pc??

bullit
12th May 2007, 18:52
sorry polish

Predator_R32
12th May 2007, 19:00
the swirl removers are a polish really the sonus ones i linked you with are numbers 1 2 and 3, what id do is do them in that order :y:

bullit
12th May 2007, 19:03
so why you send me on detailing world? lol

ill need some lube aswell?

also wax sealant? your link just came up as wax, what about sealant?

Predator_R32
12th May 2007, 19:09
yeah theres a sealent on there but its expensive could buy some from over here menzerna stuff is good i have poorboys ex-p smells gorgeos lol

lube you dont need any the clay i linke you with is a deal clay and lube or do you mean pad conditioner??

bullit
12th May 2007, 19:19
ok , meant lube for the clay. also one clay enough? best to get couple incase do other cars or what?

so basically im getting what you listed first. maybe a different wax or shouldnt it really matter, also all this will be ok to use on any car etc?

Predator_R32
12th May 2007, 19:27
yeah the link i sent you is a deal lube and clay for so much and yeah 1 bar is enough for one car i tend to use a clay every 3 month or so now, split it into 3 balls, one for the top of the car, one for the bottom half and one for the wheels :y: also i just throw it away once ive used it, but if you want to use it again which i dont really recommend put it in an air tight container or wrap it in some cling film

ive got that wax i listed too never used it but gabb on SSC used it on his ax and its a very wet look, stunning actually

bullit
12th May 2007, 19:32
ill prob go with that then, so its best to order a few bars then if im goona do my car aswell?

Predator_R32
12th May 2007, 19:33
yeah order a few mate, you can actually mix up your own lube ask on detailing world though for a recipe :p

bullit
12th May 2007, 19:43
i wont be mixing anything, lol

i think were done then?

Predator_R32
12th May 2007, 19:58
lol yeah mate get onto mike with your shopping list :y:

am just saying if you run out of lube you can mix up a solution think just some shampoow with water to be honest :y:

bullit
12th May 2007, 20:02
that sounds easy enough then. well thanks again pred, got there in the end :P

Predator_R32
