my local garage quoted me £100 to fit springs and lower torsion bar. He said he will lower it by counting the no. of threads on each side and make equal.

I dont think this is the right method.

What are the disadvantages of this method? im going 40mm low

Advantage: It's easy

Disadvantage: It'll fuck your beam right up

Avoid

Well i got mine lowered the other way but it seems to rattle on massive pot holes and cobels, not sure why?

(I know it's not technically an axel, but you know what I mean)

Knackered bearings, mounts, too low, shit dampers, not uprated the torsion bars etc etc

defo not the right way to do it mate. I dont know why garages fuck about doing it that way. Its just as easy to do it the right way lol.

SIMPSON_SAX: have a look at the sticky thread from williamsvts, sounds like you need to pull the rear arb in a bit, you sometimes get a nice like clinking bottles when it not pulled fully in. its easy enough to fix ;)

manic motors are shit hot at doing the torsion bar and lowering your car. only take them a couple of hours, £40 to drop the rear and £40 to drop the front. Just a shame they are to far away for you lol

right i want to make the garage do it the correct way. What do i need to make sure they- pull both torsion bars out from each side?

And if the beam does fuck up, so what is wrong with that?

Yeah make sure they pull them out, set the ride height then stick them back in.

When it has been done the wrong way, it can put alot of stress on everything causuing things to fail.

I bought my saxo already lowered and think it has been done the wrong way so that needs sorting, DOH.

my saxo was lowered my removing the whole arb, and then smacking the rear arms off lifting them up a knotch and then refitting it all. is that the wrong way? wats wrong with this? i have had no problems yet, it was done about 2weeks ago.
