View Full Version : HSBC and no claims bonus

Ok, I'm insured with HSBC at the moment and in January a woman reversed out a parking space and into my car. I called the insurance and they said I could claim through them and they would then claim off the womans insurance, but I'd need to pay £800 excess. Since it wasn't my fault I decided not to do this and was told to use my legal cover to get the money from the woman's insurance company first, so I did this. At the time I asked whether it would affect my no claims bonus and told it wouldn't.
On Monday I got my renewal quote, which said £15 and "nil no claims bonus", but I should have 3 years NCB! So I called to check the renewal quote and turns out it's not £15 (surprised?) and I they have taken my NCB off me as I have a claim in!!! Can they do this? It's not my insurance company that's dealing with the claim, it's my legal cover! And I'm not claiming off my insurance! Can anyone give me some advice on what to do? No way can I insure a vtr without my NCB, just can't afford it!
ouch, well unlucky mate, first things first if shes admitting responsibility then always try and settle things before you even think about involving insurance lol
They can if its in the small print which it prob is, call them up and talk to them directly, even ask for the manager but if u have no luck cancel an go wiv someone else as thats rubbish. How much do u pay atm then?

sounds pretty dodgy my friend, i'd check ur legal cover policy with a fine toothed comb to be on the safe side.
if u need to ask to raise a service failure (complaint) and the turn around is a week or sumthin - they will process ur complaint and assign a service rep to listen into ur calls & find out who has miss advised to, u have to make sure that you request ur NCB to be replaced, a letter of appology for HSBC & £10 compensation for the calls you've had to make to the insurance department,
If you dont stress that u need this done then they will fob u off...
if you do stress it the investigator will strive to resolve it (which he gets paid bonus for doing)
hope that helps.

Thanks for the info! Will call them tomorrow. I've been through my policy and all I can find is if I claim on MY insurance then I lose my no claims... doesn't say anything about going through legal cover. Atm I pay £1200, this year it has dropped to £800 with 3 years NCB as I'm due to renew this month! Hope I can get it sorted out. And I couldn't sort it out before involving the insurance company as the woman refused to give me her details and stuff, had to call the police so they could get a record of them!

most companies take the NCB off u until the issue is settled, then if its not ur fault they are normally given back to you, because she hasnt accepted it its probally being battled out so ull have to wait unfortunately, but still kick up a fuss because chances are its an admin error!

B0t13 is right. Basically you have an unresolved case on file so until this is resolved then they will not honour your no-claims

Spot on. Push, through your legal cover, for admission of liability on the part of the person that hit you.

Phoned my legal cover today and told them I need this sorted out ASAP, seemingly the woman who hit me is denying that the cars touched! I'm hoping they have the police report which says she hit me, forgot to check that. Am I right in saying that when I come to get insurance this year I'll get a quote like I have no claims bonus, or do companies take into account the claim that has been made?
if you have a claim going through, your fault or not, they will hold it against you, anything to make money
