As some of you will know, I'm looking at getting a new car - Astra or VTR....
Insurnace quote for an Astra 1.8 Sport 16v, no convictions, full year and 9 months no claims... £2328.90 on fire and theft...!
They won't even insure me for a VTR...! :panic: (This is tesco btw...)
Any ideas who I can use?

The likes of Tesco, Direct Line, Churchill and More Than WON'T insure you on a VTR until you are 21 mate - trust me, I have been there.

I'm with Bell (£1,155 Fully Comprehensive with 3rd party cover too) I'm 19 with 2yrs NCB. I'd try them, Elephant, Admiral and Brentacre - cheapest for miles buddy.

Hope that is of some help.

Hey guys this is my first post i have been keeping an eye on saxperience since my initial interest in the saxo vtr. I got a good deal on a saxo from a friend who is getting the car in good condition and with a years MOT. The car is lowered and has a body kit, the front bumper is a mess and there is a huge graphic covering the bonnet of the StAndrews cross which i don't think i want to keep. Anyway long story short this is actually my first car i have been driving constantly for nearly four years with work and i was absolutly mortified upon trying to get my first insurance policy.

I was refused a few times then finally got fully comp for £700, but I was not fully aware that the car having a body kit had to be declared and i didn't know at this point the car had been lowered. So i went back and my insurance was cancelled from Fortis. So off Swinton brokers went to find me insurance and i eventually signed up for insurance with Norwich Union for a price of £1400. I took it then remebered this forum so here i am asking all you experienced guys some advice. I am 29 BTW and i don't know if this is a good deal or if i should/CAN cancel and get it with someone other, better insurance provider.

I have been looking forward so much to getting this VTR as my first car but now everything seems to be putting me off, this is the reason i have never considered getting a car. Money.

I appreciate any help you guys can give me thanks a lot!!!

hey mate i got my 1998 vtr 3 weeks ago and found out that any insurance company who is linked to the RBS (royal bank of scotland group) wont insure any1 on a vtr who is under the age of 21. thant incluses tesco, direct line and many others. I went through peoples champion and got a quote for £560 TPFT with swinton direct. I am 17 and 3rd driver after my parents, one of which has 9yrs no claims.
hope this helped

James you do know that if you crash, your parents (9 years no claims) will lose all those precious free years?
