I used to have a sportex backbox on my 1.1 and took it off and temporarily have put it on my vtr until i can afford a magnex system. But it makes hardly any noise what so ever, why is this?

Do you have a centre silencer? If so this is probably the reason.

it used 2 be really loud on my 1.1 and yeh there is a centre silencer

I had a sportex on my old punto, was loud as I had no centre silencer whereas my brother had one on his corsa with a centre silencer and it was quite quiet compared to mine.
