Hi all,

First of all, i didnt know whether to put it in the brakes section or this one, but as its a problem with my brakes i decided this was the best section to put it in.

Yesterday morning, i got in my car to go to halfords (For cleaning stuff) and my driveway is very sloped. When i took off the handbrake i didnt roll back. I thought maybe the wet weather has made the brakes stick a little so i put my car in reverse and rev'd it a little bit more than usual. I got quite a big bang and it rolled back.

Then when i tried to go forward the brakes were still stuck. When i tried to pull off it was like the handbrake was still on and it dragged the arse end.

When i free'd them, the brakes went really baggy and it takes me ages to slow down so its to dangerous to drive now. Also the handbrake is really loose so i have to leave it in gear.

I took off both the back wheels to see if i could see something and i noticed that with the handbrake on full, the rear passenger hub could still be moved around with my hands. But the drivers rear hub was really tight and i couldnt move it.

Any ideas as to what the problem can be? Im going to book it in the garage but if its simple then i'd rather do it myself.

I hope someone can help!

Thanks,
Tom

hello mate the first thing you should do is take the rear brake drums off and check the brake shoes, springs, wheel cylinders. we have saxo's and peugeot 106's come in with this problem all the time its normally the brake shoes have come away from the backing of the shoe or have snapped good luck in getting it sorted you should be able to do this yourself rather than take it too a garage plus you will be saving yourself some money i hop this helps.

Cheers mate!

I took the wheel off, how do i get the front of the drum off?

Is it all pretty self explanitary once the front is off? Because i dont want to make the problem worse lol.

Thanks!

you just need to take the hub nut dust cover off then undo the hub nut with a 32mm socket then the drum will come off mate.

yeh iv cin the shoes coming away before, also check you fluid is full, if it is the shoes that have gone they are quite tricky if you havent done them before but if your going to do them yourself only do oneside at a time,so you've got something to compare to.
