i know that this has been covered many times but i cant find the answer on my problem.

got gti interior and my air bag light is on and has been ever since in put the interior in.

chopped the plugs off under the seats and re-wired them with connecters as i thought it could have been one of these that might be faulty.
that has not worked. i still have the original steering wheel and it has never been off, the pretentioners have never been off and have not been relseased.

does anyone know what it could be or how to fix it?

Could put the 2 ohm resistor in there your light will go off and the airbags will still function!

Should do the trick

they will still work?

where does the resistor go?

BenSilverSaxo

you put two bits of wire into the socket of the wire that goes to the airbag. Then solder the resistor onto the wire, or if the legs of the resistor are long enough put them into the two holes in the socket.

NOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!

don't use resistors in your air bag system AND I MEAN EVER !!!
your best bet is take it to citroen and get a diag check done to be honest find out whats at fault
did you use the original pretentioners or a set you got with the seats??

i used the ones that were on the new seats. if i got some more pretentioners (sp) would that fix it?

how did you reconnect the wires? with a proper crimping tool? You need to make sure you connect each individual wire separatly if you get me? I did mine and its been fine:y:

best thing to do mate is get a multimeter put it on a resistance setting and meter the cable coming from the seat/seats. all the airbag systems in any car is looking for 2ohms. if theres not 2 ohms at one of the seat/seats the pretentioners have been released. the only way round it is to get the pretentioner off the old seat and swap them over. or quick fix which i done is put a 2ohm resistor across the cable coming threw under the carpet. one side of the resistor with one wire and same with the other wire. but make sure the resistor doesn`t short itself out. if you go down the resistor road the airbag light will go out and airbag will work as normal. hope this helps. cheers

ive just used block connectors

ive just used block connectors

Did you connect each of the pairs of wires indivdually?
As if they are connected together or touching it could cause yo a problem.
Im pretty sure your problem is with the connectors as 99% of the time it is, there just cheap french rubbish

i cut the connecters off and hard wired them.

each wire is seperately

however the wires on the car were different colours to the ones on the seats.

sometimes the light doesnt come on for a few minutes so its not like its on constantly

ive just fitted my gti interior and found the connecting plugs to be different so i took the leads off my vts seats and put them on my gti seats. works fine now!

no mate doesn`t matter what way the wires go, as it is only a resistance not looking for voltage.:y:

Mark51

right, ive taken the seats out and put them back in and made a good connection on the wires and the Air Bag light is still on and it is driving me crazy

Time for the tape me feels, why dont you have a bash with the resistor?

Mark51
17th May 2007, 21:00
because then the pretensioners wont work

17th May 2007, 21:11
Have you tried switching the wires around?

You could have used the original pretensioners from your old seats as they just bolt into place. I have some spares if you want to try those some time? Might be faulty pretensioners themselves

It does sound like the wiring though, just make sure it is a solid connection

It might not necessarily be your seat connection that is making the light come on...

Undo the two torx bits underneath the stearing column cover... then hinge it down... on the left hand side you will see an orange connection... unplug... clean connectors and reconnect...

See if that works :y:

Good luck!

there are other places to check the connections, one is the ignition coloum, just unscrew the surround and there is an orange cable and a block connector. i jiggled this an mine has been off for over a year now.
the other places is in the passenger foot well by the fuse box, there is another place where the orange seat belt cable joins

cheers for the comments guys, cant see how it would affect the wire under the stearing colum as i havnt touched that. at the momment i am willing to give anything a try to get it fixed. its only a little light but it proper fooks me off to the point i just want to smash it up, lol

Craig - will try the other suggestions first then if they dont work will drop you a PM or text, cheers

As a final straw you could reset the Airbag ECU. What you'll need to do is undo the battery, then under the middle of the dash under the carpet unplug the Large orange plug and leave for a few mins before reconnecting. There might just be an intermittent fault on the ECU

Mark51
17th May 2007, 21:41
will try the others first as i can se me fooking up my ECU knowing my luck, lol

if the lights still not out, the pretensions on the gti seats have been released. have you tried swaping the pretensions over?

Mark51
18th May 2007, 06:51
no, thats going to be the last thing that i do

what tools do i need to take the pretentioners off?

GrantW

When I bought my GTI leathers, the guy I bought them off of said the airbag light was on, but when we put them in my car we used my pretensioners and the light didnt come on. Thats what I would do mate, use your own. I cant remember how hard it was to do, but it didnt take long, think it was pretty simple actually :y:

when you find out which it is Mark tell me as mine is flashing still ie since October!

Mark51
18th May 2007, 16:37
right after trying today for about 3 hours i gave up and took it to Art Engineering in Wakefield for Turbo Tony to plug it in to the diagnosic machine. three diagnosic machines and £20 later he tells me that there is a bad connection! i said well fook me i could of told you that. he has told me that it is the passenger side on that is faulty and has suggested re-wiring the pretentioner wire up until it plugs into the actual pretentioner.

however i have rounded off one of the seat bolts that holds the seat to the car. new thread for that problem

steviet
18th May 2007, 16:42
well at least you know now what the problem is.....

furioAL
18th May 2007, 16:46
Send a pm to 'Chesh' he rounded a bolt that held his seats in but managed to remove it... sure he will be able to remove it...

I think it involved hammering in a large torx bit and then using that to undo it...

Did you try the connector in the stearing column?

Alex
:)

Mark51
18th May 2007, 16:48
yea but thats fine, cheers for the suggestion

i have already tried smacking a Torx bit into it and that hasnt worked

furioAL
18th May 2007, 16:53
As a last resort it could either be drilled out... or a bolt could be welded to the head... then you can get a decent socket set on the bolt end :y:

But im sure there must be a simpler method...
