Cars overheating, it takes me 25 minutes to get to work, within 15 minutes the temp gauge is at 3/4. it cut out twice on me today! i dont race around but take a steady pace. fan does work and water is full, could there be a blockage somewhere? any ideas or anyone else experienced this? the car i got is a saxo 1.4i vsx.

flush the system to get rid of airblocks, plenty fluid in the radiator? what sort of condition is the radiator in, go to my progress thread and on first page there is a pic of what my radiator looked like! if its as bad as that replace it, mine used to go 3/4 the way!

dont worry bout it mate my car used to overheat and cut out when i braked and put the clutch in (roundabouts mainly as i tend to do that!)
all i did was check the coolant found i had next to none :panic: added some to it and its been fine for a good 3months now but due to me needing a service im having the system flushed and having some fresh put in, so my saxo will be drinking fresh, problem solved for you i hope!!! :y:

thanks for the info, basically i know as much about maintaining an engine as i do rocket science... so in other words... nothing! i bought my car last week and once i got it home gave it a a clean and stuff. when i got to the engine i had to pour roughly around a litre of water in the radiator to bring it up to the top. sorry for the total beginners question but where does the coolant go? i have been thinking about booking it in for a service, the cars at 55,000 miles at the mo, not sure when the last service was but do you book the car in after so many years... or when it gets to a certain mileage?

if i was you i would service it too be sure, new spark plugs, new oil and oil filter, new airfiltrer or if an aftermarket one clean it. you may also want to do the fuel filter but probs ok. the coolent goes in where the water goes. check the water now as it nay have a leak hence why you had to put soo much in.

book it in for a service, i dont know too much about engines i just read into it a lot and like to learn things about my car, but yes like bensax3 said the coolant goes in where you put the water (little screw style top on the top of your radiator, front of the engine!) look on the bottle or your manual for info on how much to put in a did a ratio of 1:2 1 part coolant 2 part water!!
welcome to sax-p by the way!!
good luck

justed checked radiator, still got plenty of water in so no leak. will adding coolant really make that much of a difference and stop car from cutting out? gonna check out sum local garages to book it in for a service.

photobucket.com then insert the image code into a post do a progress thread im sure we will all want to see your car, sounds as though you got some plans!!! nope adding coolant wont make much of a difference now as we are coming into summer but have it done before winter as the water may freeze in your radiator and crack it = big bill-age!!!
ps if you want a avatar pic you have to post 50 times so get over to the newbies section and say hello to them all!!! not that im promoting spam in any way!!!

you could do halk the service yourself just requires common sense, but yeah try a service, saxo's tend to run hot but cutting out nnot sure on. when you get it serviced ask them to have a look and they could tell you why its cutting out

cheers mate, i would have a go myself but want it done quick. have been reading other threads on how to bleed radiator but for me to actually get round and spend time doing it id only be able to do it on weekend and dont wanna wait that long. i work opposite 2 garages so will get that to sort it. in the meantime gonna get the haynes manual, do some reading ready for the next problem that may pop up.
