right, ive just binned my free air induction kit for my VTS cos i did a test between the induction kit and my standard air box. and the standard air box performed better.

there a straight bit of road by me, three runs each

INDUCTION KIT

95 mph

97mph

92mph

STANDARD AIR BOX

102mph

105mph

102mph

but my other question is, ok ive relized that my free air induction kit was shite, but wot is the difference with the standard air box with, say a K and N panel filter in it, compaired to these closed/forced air induction kit form the likes of green, pro comp, piperX???

cos these closed/forced air induction kits range from £150 to £250+ where as the panel filter cost around £30ish. i know ur not gunna get the same noise etc..

but to me they will both work the same as they are both sucking cold air!!!?????

sorry for the long post lol.. but this has been buging me for a while.

cheers andy

The problem with a free air filter is, is that its sucking up too much hot air from the engine, because in most cases the filter is behind the engine.Hot air contains less oxygen than cold air. With an airbox you don't have that problem cus the air you're getting comes direct from the front of the car into that tube. It doesn't come past the hot engine. So you only get cold air with that airbox

Hope to have informed you with the right info. <img src= "smileys/smiley1.gif">

i know all this info pather82 but i just want to know the difference between a closed/forced air induction kit and a simple panel filter!

why fork out hundreds of pounds for a closed/forced air induction kit when a panel filter is basically doing the same job but for a fraction of the cost.

wot r the differences between the 2 apart from price, sound and looks????????????????

The std box is sucking in air.... the other types are trying their best to force air into the engine.... so they offer a slight performance gain, higher air velocity and additional cooling.

ive just ordered a K&N panel filter from ABP, so at leaset i know it will perform better than the induction kit i had.
