cigarette lighter removal

I am thinking of removing my lighter completly,and installing a 3 or 4 way splitter out of sight,could i hard wire the splitter to the wiring from the old lighter? or do i need fuses and stuff to make it work and be safe.?

just hard wire it into the switched live and the earth mate should be fine it will only have power to it with the key in and on the 1st click

you also could put a switch and use the permanent 12volt and earth then when you switch it on the power will come with the keys out of ignition if you catch my drift :p
