its probably about the going rate for a 17 year old

chopa
29th May 2007, 16:38
its up to you mate, but theres better ways of spending 2k than on insurance.

Gratz
29th May 2007, 16:44
Well i would be happy enough to spend 2k on insurance as i got nothing else to spend it on ( and really wan a VTS) but i might look in to makin my Dad insure and for like 400 quid and ill just drive it around that would be cool

thanks .

have you looked at the furios or a vtr mate, as a vtr will surley be quik enough for your first car?? but if your heart is set on a vts go for it, its your money.

Gratz
29th May 2007, 16:54
I have a westie at the moment mate and im payin about 1500 a year for that. i think the extra 500 quid a year will be well worth it.. :)

steviet
29th May 2007, 17:02
if you can afford it go for it. its a fast wee motor.

chopa
29th May 2007, 17:13
you might aswell for the extra £500 then mate.

vipergfx
29th May 2007, 17:21
very good that. im 20 2years ncb and i pay 1350 tpft.

Matt-VTR
29th May 2007, 17:24
I'd go for it, but i think 2k for insurance is way too much when the car's not worth much more?

17 year old + VTS = Dangerous

Id have crashed a VTS if i had it at 17, i had a 1.0 saxo spree for my first car and even came close a few times in that with other idiots on the road. Think it through mate, if you want to pay high premiums every year and you don't drive it like you stole it then do what you want :)

Steve
29th May 2007, 17:49
2k is cheap as chips!
your going to get rapped either way i was getting quotes of 1.7k on 1ltr corsa's etc
ended up being cheaper on a vtr 1.4k i paid £500 compulsory excess and £500 vol!

thats all fully comp etc

Your going to get rapped either way seriously!

i say do it depending on your driving, if your not the best and a bad boy race i say no!

it will end in tears......

whos is that qoute with as i cant find qoutes for under 1800 for a furio!

Good price for a 17 year old to be honest.

Up to you though, it's a fast car for your age/experience.

Saxo_Steve
29th May 2007, 21:19
I'd say it was good, I paid the same for fully comp on a 1.2 Punto at that age.

Luke
29th May 2007, 22:02
I paid more than for a Westie TPFT at your age.

30th May 2007, 00:09
2k for a 17 year old is cheap mate is that fully comp or third party? and who is it with. Im looking at paying 1.5k for a vtr if i get one.

Barry123
30th May 2007, 00:15
its relatively cheap but at the same time its 2focking thousand pounds (i bet TPFT too). a lot of dosh. if you crash you'll lose car, and money paid to insurance. really baffles me why someone would pay so much for insurance.

OLLYVTS
30th May 2007, 09:41
That is a good quote mate as you are only 17.I dont think you would find anythink cheaper, what company was that with????

Mozza
30th May 2007, 10:00
Yeh seems pretty reasonable does that. Im gonna be paying about £1500 for my westy and im 21. I think tho for you at 17 something like a westy would be enough speed.

KamRacing
30th May 2007, 10:07
chances are you will bin it. If its TPFT then you've lost £4k very easily. Buy something cheap and spend the extra spare cash on skidpan and a rally day to improve your skills so when you do get a vts you can drive it properly

Mozza
30th May 2007, 10:10
Would that improve your driving realy?

KamRacing
30th May 2007, 10:17
I did. theres nothing like learning how a car handles when on a slippery surface without fear of hitting someone else. The problem with the VTS is its ability far exceeds the OP's own skills so when/if he crashes it will be tend to be high speed and impossible to recover. I personally would get a banger for 6 months and learn to drive properly and dent that. Then move to the more powerful car once I can handle a big engined car. Sometimes you have to hold back the excitement and peer pressure and keep a level head.

mines 2500 with a years no claims on a VTR

would rep for that. Nail on the head man, There is nothing quite like understanding the limits of a car in a safe environment.

Thats what i have done mate :)

Gone from a 1.0 Saxo to a Westie and now going for a VTS :)

Thats cheap imo, also its deffo worth payin an extra £500 for a car a league above a westy. All these youngsters want speed speed and more speed, I think you should go for it just be very careful.

1st June 2007, 23:43
I got a furio, plenty quick enough for my first car. i turned 18 a month ago, if i had a VTS as first car i might well be dead, ive had alot of near misses - and people say im a good driver, but when your with your mates you go silly. :<

If you pay £2000 TPFT on any car you need your head looking at. If you crash you end up with nothing and next year see how much your insurance costs with a claim on it. Get something smaller and work your way up. Why do you need a VTS at 17 unless you plan to do extreme speeds, which will land you with loads of speeding fines and points on your licence.

I know it is good to show off to your friends that you have a VTS but for the extra money you spend on insurance and petrol are you actually gaining anything out of it?

platty
7th June 2007, 12:31
i have a vtr and im 17, i think thats quick enough and ive been driving for 6months, wouldnt consider a vts till youve got atlest a years experience.

its up to you though mate. petrol is another killer with the vtr, 30mpg is the best ive ever had, the vts will be much worse so unless you get a decent monthly wage i wouldnt consider it.

start lower, furio/westie or vtr is ideal.

have my 1000 post!

7th June 2007, 13:39
thats daft money for insruance think what else you could do with it a nite out every weekend, i was looking at getin a vts but didnt wanna pay 1000 fuly comp and im 19 rather save 400 and get another vtr

-Jason-
7th June 2007, 14:29
I only pay 700 tpft for my vts but like people have said above they are very quick cars and when you have an accident (not usually if but when with young drivers sorry to be abit stereotypical) you will be going fast like i was in mine and ive been driving for 3 years.

But seen as you havent been driving long being 17 i would advise against a vts as you also have to remember if you get 6 points in your first 2 years bye bye licence and if you are in a fast car there is always the temptation to rdrive fast to impress people and thats how you get points have accidents and people die.

But hey your money you will probably get one anyway as seem to have your heart set on one but just remember what people have posted on here when the inevitable happens.

cany beat bein old am 24 an pay £350 for a vts fully comp watch wat your doin thou mate their far from slow. i did wat your doin for my first car payin nearly £2k for a rover 220 coupe an put it into a tree lol

7th June 2007, 16:46
your insurence will take a huge drop after the 1st year anyway mate so it wont be THAT much, wait till your renewal comes through. There are more options than a VTS tho, take a look around, insurers just dont like the saxo's, they are a licence to print money for these poeple.

G-Whizz
8th June 2007, 09:52
That's £166 a month, before you have even turned a wheel!

At the ripe old age of 32, my VTR is £208 fully comp a year with tesco.

As some one else said, there are better ways of spending 2k, like buying a newer cheaper to run car?

sax87
11th June 2007, 09:58
When i was 17 i ignored the advice of not getting the vtr and the inevitable happend. i then drove a little 1.0 106 for a year and went back to the vtr and its so much better to drive now. remember you never think it will happen to yourself...

2k good quote tho, normally cant get insured till ya 20.

MarkyG
11th June 2007, 10:16
id say that was a good quote tbh, i was 21 when i got a VTR and that cost me £2k to insure, i now pay £650 for my VTS to insure fully comp.

Go for it fella! but beware, the VTS has a lot of power for such a small car as standard, ive had my VTS 3 months and am still finding out new things with it!

Saxoladlesta
11th June 2007, 18:02
Who's that quote with?Seems like you've had quite a few cars before - what happened to them??

jclaydon

Its good for a 17 year old, but screw spending that much yearly on insurance. Its an ambush.

doubledavies
11th June 2007, 18:17
I wouldnt! 2k was more than my first car!

and lets be honest! youd bin it!

D_G_SAXO
17th June 2007, 10:47
Good deal if it is for a 03 vts but if u are getting a saxo vts for 2k the a waste of money but get what u want mate ur money.

If u havent driven befour then dont get a vts just get a 1.4 for 6 months.

17th June 2007, 10:51
Hey, Id deffo think about getting a VTR first!

Ive just bought a VTS after having a VTR and there is a big difference. Depends on what kind of 17 yr old driver you are though i guess.

If you do get a VTS take it easy!

Where did you get the quote from too!?! ;)

Payney
17th June 2007, 12:24
I'd say go for the VTS, but don't go stupid mate, so many new drivers like myself have saxos and end up smashing it up.

reddysaxo
17th June 2007, 12:28
amazing quote bearing in mind im £2100 on a 1.1i tpft named driver :(

MiniGibbo
17th June 2007, 14:05
at 17 2k for a vts is super cheap, is that fully comp though ???

belly_VTS
17th June 2007, 15:11
its a good price mate, i was paying 2250 for mine after i just turned 19. and that was tpft

Jackman
17th June 2007, 15:25
would spend that amount on a first car.

VTS is a powerful car to start off with..

dont wana start to high and regret it next year when you cant insure anything because of claims...

and im talking through experience.

I got a VTS mate and i am 18, jus be careful if you get it. Get use to the car dont go speeding about straight away as death is certain lol. The VTS is class and i think you should get it.

i drive a furio n just bout to turn 18 and thinking of gettin a vts(well nt as much lthinkin but know) but i know if i had a vts at 17 i would of klled myself. just a year to learn that the road dont forgive anyfin and if you crash it will hurt. but at 18 i know not to drive like an idiot and the days of always wantin to race every1 has gone. i will say i was a twat a few times but im nt a boy racer and i know now in a saxo if you crash you are in trouble. Id take a year in a furio/ westie or a vtr to learn to drive properly and know what the road is like before ownin a vts
