Afternoon,

Car has got it's MOT tomorrow but it's hardly moved for the last 2 weeks. Am I best to take it out for a run before it actually goes in for the test? I'm just thinking it might fail the Emissions test with it been stood there for so long.

Hope everything else is ok too, even though handbrake needs adjusting.

Thanks,

Luke

I'd say take it for a run, might sound stupid but if it aint moved atall, maybe you should give the cv boots a hose down & other rubber boots. They go hard/stale if there left for a long time, my mini hasnt moved for months while iv been working on it & i drove round the block a couple weeks ago to get things going again & have now torn both outer cv boots open

Also your brake disks will be going rusty too, so you might wanna do some moderate braking to clean them up and get the brakes performing better

After what i said ignore it... the exhaust and CAT isnt going to collect carbon if the car hasnt moved. I'd suggest taking it for a spirited run prior to the MOT. gives you a chance to get the internals freshened and you can check if you can hear or feel anything not quite right.

give it a good run, there will be smoke coming out but it will just be water in the exhaust

will probley be ok

make sure everything gets warmed up before going for an mot though

a good 10-20 min drive will be fine

make sure you test the basics before sending it in

Yeah, turned 4 year old last week.

It's been serviced every year and I don't rag it everywhere.

nope you dont need it unless it runs out in a few weeks and they can make the new 1 run out on that date

if that makes sense

but you dont need anything with you

check all the bulbs and horn just incase

If you take your MOT certificate they can run it on from that, I had my MOT 3 weeks before it was due and they run it on so I got 12months and 3 weeks;)

It runs out on 16th June but thought I'd get it in 2 weeks before.

I'll update thread tomorrow.

Just got back from the MOT place and I did need my other certificate.

It passed anyway, no problems whatsoever.

Congratulations...
When I took mine, I had lost my MOT certificate and they weren't too bothered....

I think they can still pull details up on system, the MOT certificate is just there for reference.

if a car has been standing around I would take it for a good run. This will allow any condensation and water in the breathers to be burnt off or evaporated, once its nicely warmed up give it a good hard thrash as this will blow out any carbon deposits that accumilate in the exhaust. With the oil and water up to temperature the emissions will be better also as the combustion will be at its most efficient. Frequent use of the brakes will hopefully remove all rust and any pitting of the disks.

I took it for a 30 minute drive around and a quick blast down the carriageway at 90 ;)

It was all fine, brake test and emissions were spot on.
