start collecting adverts for Westys of similar age and milleage and condition. Present those to the insurance company if they make a low offer (which they will)

you wont get any money back from the insurance company, you may find that you will still have to pay the rest of the insurance for the year, i mean you have paid for 3 months and are making a claim, in some cases they will want the money for the rest of the policy

you can cancel a policy once they have paid up i am sure though really you need to read your handbook for your contract details in the event of a crash. What they will charge you is a termination fee for definite

If your paying monthly you'll have to pay the remaining 9months. Not sure if you'll get it back if you cancel.

thanks for all the replys. i paid for my insurance all at once when i took out the policy, thats why i was wondering if i could claim anything. even half of the remaining is better than half of nothing.

A friend of mine made a claim after first month of insurance, got the car repaired (6k worth of damage iirc) and then part exchanged the car and canceled his insurance. Few weeks later got a letter through with a bill of about £1100 of money he owed them as they paid out and he canceled..

get your cash out of them, if they pay up that is, then just cancel the direct debit, jack shite they can do then! even still though they might let you cancel on condition you pay another months money! good luck either way!

Looks a write off mate. If your comp insured then when/if you claim and they pay out. You wont get anythink back if you cancel your insurance. Best off getting a new car and changing insurance over to that new car. As once you make a claim you cant cancel your policy and get any money back.
To be honest it doesnt look that good. As most insurance companies will value your car using glass's guides. Which really dont value old cars like mk1 saxos too well tbh. But if you dispute the first value if you know its low. Then they should get some examples like stuff off autotrader etc.. and have to give you a fair price on what you would probably get if you was to sell.

thanks. if a reasonable offer is made i will take it. obviously if its stupid i will arguee. if i get a new car what happens then? do i jus pay the differnce for the remaining time or do i have to take out a whole new policy?

Should just pay the extra premium thats what i did. If policy turns out cheaper.. dont htink you get any refund tho due to having made a claim. (but not 100% on that as im pretty sure i got some money back when i swopped my mk2 vtr over to my mk1 when i wrote it off)

if you've paid for a years insurance but only get 3 months, which is the case here, then surely something's wrong with that? Will they just put the remaining months towards another car or what? Like if you sold the car.

If you don't get another car I think you can claim the other months back. Same with car tax you can claim it back.

What age and milage was the car? Basically, you just wanna find some in the autotrader or local car sales for similar age/milage and condition and see what there going for. Then you can debate whether you think thier price is fair... Alternatively you could try www.wisebuyers.co.uk and see what they say the book value is. (There pritty Harsh on there btw lol!)
Hope this helps and glad your okay! :y:
