View Full Version : is this good a good quote?
hi, i'm just looking at insurance quotes for a mk2 vtr (because I ideally want one before i pass my test but i wouldn't insure it until i got a full licence, about july.)
Im 18 so insurance on a vtr is gonna be a killer i know but the cheapest i found was with quinn direct, £2100 fully comp, and £1100 third party fire & theft, are these good because everyone else is quoting like £3000. insure and go even quoted me £7000 lol :ill:
cheers

Have you tried Bell or Adrian Flux etc?
:(
bell quoted me £5250 lol, but im still waitin for a response from adrian flux.

aww bless ya.
Have you tried Confused.com as they give you loads of different ones or tesco's, I think a few people are with them.
ye confused is where i found the quinn direct quote, i havn't tried tescos though, i'll try that now. if all the quotes are this high it looks like im gonna have 2 buy a 1.1 :(
tesco won't even insure me :S, but i've been lookin for quotes for a typical 1.1 saxo and the cheapest quote is £1900 so for an extra £200 i may as well insure a vtr lol, i reckon I'll just go for it, you only live once live it 2 the full as they say...
cheers

well im with elephant for my third year now i have hada 1.1 saxo 1.6vtr and 1.6vts with elephant and all were under 1k:) so i do like em but bell i have found out quote slightly less but those 2 i have found good quotes from em admiral is usually good to
elephant were one of the first i tried but they quoted me somewhere in the region of £4500 which is way over the top for me.

HERE IS A LITTLE TRICK FOR YA TO TRY!
Do what i did mate, go onto bell.co.uk and go through it, put yourself as the main driver, but add 2 other people as well, like mum and dad, and watch what happens,
they quoted me 3,200 on my vts (im only 19) but with my mum and dad got it down to 1,600 tpft, but with all the mods it was 1,900 but dont do what i did and smash it up. lol
Let us know how you get on with that method.
no luck mate, all the quotes just stay the same. :( cheapest is still £2100 fully comp on me own. :(

Thats still good for comp insurance as first car tbh. I paid 1640 on a vtr at 17. TPFT. That was with my mom on my insurance. With elephant. Was closer to 2k with mods declared though.

Its good if you can afford to pay it and still have money left to spend for other things. If the VTR is worth £2000 plus i would personally go Fully Comp. Being 18 you are more likely to crash and TPFT would mean you lose the £1100 you payed for insurance and the £2000+ you payed for your car.
I could easily afford to insure a VTS even at £3000 insurance and still have money left over. I wouldnt becuase it is not worthit. Wait till you are a bit older and got some no claims then think about bigger cars.
Ye thats a good point but the only thing is that 2000 quid is the cheapest quote i can get no matter what engine saxo i get, even a 1.1 which doesn't make much sense to me but if thats the case then i may as well just get a vtr.

dont be mug dude. swallow your pride and get a cheapy crap run about for a year. the money you save from not paying daft insurance quote can go towards a nice car after you've got a year no claims.
£2k insurance for anything is ridiculous

I'm 17 (18 this month) went to insure my 1.1i (theres nothing wrong with 1.1's) and she would cost me by myself well over 3000 with all major insurers, £2500 with less major ones, (and all these were tpft) so i gave up and my mums with me, we're now with the co-op and it cost £1100, quinn quoted me £993 but i build up no claims as a named driver with co-op which is all good :y: Got any family members insurance you can go with? more than quoted me on my mums insurance £1500 tpft :omg: car cost just over £1500 with a year warranty, best to go with the cheaper tpft :) good luck anyway... 1.1's can out do a 1.4 306 haha ;)

I got my 01 VTR insured for 1,226.13 from QUINN 3rd party. Wheres this 1100 from lol? My mums a named driver aswell. (need to learn)
Also why dont Quinn ask if you have modded your car? I think I remember getting a quote from AA or Direct Line and they were asking if it was chipped and whatever. But with Quinn there doesnt seem to be any mention of mods.
I was asked if the car was modified when i got a quote from Quinn mate

£1,100 from Co-op mate, and thats paying by month and with online discount. Only with co-op to hopefully build up no claims ;) My postcode is pretty crap... within the 3 years owning our Nova as a kid it got broke into around 5 times; we had an immobiliser, crook lock-several and everything! lol... Oh well!
£1,100 is for a 1.1i mate, and im a young-un.

:omg: I got quoted well over 2 grand from direct line, and I've done pass plus.. mind you whats your age? Also depending on the age of your car it could be more expensive (mine's from all the way back in 96) And direct line are very good at giving deals to the females :n: lol... ah well.
I'm over the moon now, I just got a quote from Quinn Direct and they'll insure me on an '02 VTR for £1200 tpft. Now I'm just on the lookout for a vtr :D :luff:
