Hi there,

My VTR seems to have developed a creak/ knocking suspension when turning the wheel at slow speeds (<10 MPH), it happens mostly when straightening up from left full lock. It can also be heard when moving the wheel from the left to the right when stationary (which I don't make a habit of doing). The strange thing is; once it has creaked/ knocked it doesn't do it again until I turn the wheel to the right, back to the left and then straighten it.

The car has only done 26K miles and is sitting on standard springs etc. I’m thinking a perished bush might be responsible. Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

Think knocking when going from one side to another is the steering arm bush needing replacing if i remember rightly

could be a ball joint mate. jack up the side of the car thats knocking and see if theres any play(movement) in the wheel as mine had some up and down play.

yeah sounds like a cv (ball) joint mate

as said it could be a driveshaft! pay attention to the CV (constant velocity) gaiter

also check the droplinks!

is it a constant knock or a single knock?

Just a single knock mate, although saying that it's more of a creaking noise. I'll try get a video of it sometime as it's hard to describe.

When the front brakes were done the bloke checked the wheels for play and said they were fine.

to me it sounds like the normal saxo suspension knock. Ive had the same knock on all 4 of my saxos.

Does it do it at low speeds when laying off the accellerator and back on and when changing gear at low speed?

Mine does this when stationary or going slow, only once until i do the same thing again...
Never bothered me as its always done it, though is worrying to start with!

All sorted new :d

Turns out it was a loose suspension top mount bolt. We tightened it by hand but it turns out it needs done with a windyhammer otherwise the centre section just spins. :)
