long story short got pulled over last night by a traffic police man and woman and they looked round my car and said that my plates are not upto the right standards i.e. no BS mark but my old plates did not have the BS mark on them and they where original ones and ive searched the DVLA website and found before 2001 they do not need a BS mark and now ive got to talk to the guy that pulled me over tonight to sort summit out am well pissed off because they are legal legal lettering legal reflectors legal spacing everything and ive heard somebody had an e mail from the DVLA specifing that they where legal on all pre 2001 cars and mines a W reg so if anyone has anything to help please post and if someone has the e mail please send to dre695@hotmail.com any replies greatly appriciated

The plates are illegal. The font is not a standard font pre/post 2001, and pressed plates have been illegal in the UK since the early 70's!
You car won't pass an MOT with these illegal plates and at the end of the day the police were just doing their job!

yeah some people actually use some fibreglass on the keypad immobiliser to make on :)
my plates have been on 6 month and i havent had any problems plus i know the mot tester so he just turns a blind eye :p

You need the BS mark if the plate was made after 2001, it has nothing to do with the age of the car! obviously if the car is 2001 or older you could claim that the plate has been on the car since before 2001.

i tried that and no they are still illegal need a BS mark and the company that made them i.e. halfords etc and this was from the traffic cop that stopped me so no complaints they where illegal and got caught fair is fair got some new ones anyway fully legal french ones deffo goin back on at FCS 2007 so all in all dont buy french plates they are illegal no matter what

i emailed the dvla and they said that if the plate was bought before 2001 it was ok, but after then the plates have to be matching the country of registration. for the F/GB band anyway
hope that helps
im planning on getting some pressed plates with the uk font and no band on the left.:y:
