i pay just under 1K on with my mum thats with screen trade I started the polocy when i was 18 with 0NCB
I can't get an online quote with Admiral, and with screentrade, with NCB protected it would be 4461.54...unprotected is 1380.39 but I can't leave 15yrs NCB unprotected :P
Maybe I'll phone Admiral... other than that.. Quinn-Direct seems the best path

If you are using your dads/mums FULL no claims then £1700 is very high. If you are just adding your mum/dad as a driver then £1700 is about right for a 17 year old. Beware that no claims can only be used on ONE car so your mum/dad cant use it on there car and you also use it on yours. Also beware that if you crash your mum/dad will lose thier no claims (and will be pissed).
Get something smaller at 17 for your first car. You are going to spend almost as much as the car costs on insurance and will not get anything back at the end of the day. Your choice in the end but a complete waste of money if you ask me.

I fancy a VTR because I'll only up regretting getting a cheaper car after I've done mods on it etc, and put work into it..
And just for a giggle:
For me to be insured on a VTR by myself, fully comp, 350 voluntary.. at the age of 17....
Cheapest: Quinn Direct £2,189.92
Most Expensive................... 1stQuote £12,186.67
Yes that's 12 grand.... for that price I could get:
a 2.6litre twin turbo Nissan Skyline R33...
a 3.5litre Nissan 350Z
a 2.5litre Porsche Boxter
29268 mars bars
24 1.1 litre Citroen Saxos...

So you are looking at an extra £400 to go on your own with quinn direct. If you do decide to buy the VTR and can afford the insurance, pay the extra £400 to go on your own. Your insurance will drop next year as long as you dont claim. Cant say how much but i know some peoply who went from paying £1500 in year one to £800 the next year. That years no claims makes a big difference in the long run..

That's what i'm thinkin mate, its about 200 pound extra for me to insure a vtr than a 1.1 so i think I'll just go for it.

That's the exact same price I got, aged 18 tho.
A first time driver I can't really expect cheap, I'm that mad about cars I'll be willing to cut down on everything else I spend money on to save up for insurance :P.. Hopefully it'll come down for next year though :P
