I had a 2000 forté as my 1st car before my mate wrote it off for me, got insured on it for 1500 quid on quinn direct 3rd party fire and theft. What did they quote you mate? Where do you live as well.

adding mother and father (depending on thier record) is defo going to help.

also estimating less mileage than you expect.. (most people over estimate)

Haggling is the way forward. Im pretty sure most of gateshead is one big crime wave which might explain the cost to some extent! try and get the car garaged, or get a security device fitted with a Thacham rating.

THIS IS WITH A PASS PLUS ASWELL THE CEUNTS

quinn direct = £2500 on own policy!
Tesco car insurance = £3300 on own policy £3100 when i add my mum as a named driver
Admiral = £3300 on own policy

as a compulsory excess for young drivers £500 isnt that bad, in fact very good in my opinion. It depends how confident you feel about driving. you could negotiate a premium discount if you are willing to accept a higher excess. give it a try.

have you tried endsleigh or elephant or CIS dude?

Bogus
8th June 2007, 11:44
mine is cheaper if the car itself is in my dads name.

8th June 2007, 11:55

Elephant are a JOKE!
£5100 on third party fire n theft on the 12mnth annual and £4000? on 10month bonus accel lol

Barry123
8th June 2007, 12:05
word of advice man... dont touch the 10month accelerators.

it may seem great to make things a little cheaper but often you find the NCB isnt recognised by other companies when it comes to renew your premium, thus you get locked into the original insure who can then charge you whatever they like! short term gain... long term pain.

£3800 fully comp or £4300 third party fire lol

I am thinking of going on my mums policy with direct line for £1300 but its £1500 with no claims protected and thats 400 difference from cheapest anyway - i;m better off going on my own i think!

Barry123

atleast you're pursuing it mate. good on you for attempting to get sorted with your own no claims early on :y: good luck getting a decent quote :)

i dont understand how you are getting quotes like that. 1.1 is the ultimate first car, and with pass pluss and alarm and imob you should be getting much cheaper. unless you live in a jail or summin, lol. just keep trying, would have thought you would get at least 900-1000 with quinn.

I'm bundled on my mums Privilege. It's costing me £90 a month :(

That's fully comp though, and no claims are protected etc

Driveway, WF3 area, no alarm or immobiliser

Quotes are going to be very high for a 17 year old, even on a 1.1. Try adding your mum/dad as a second driver and see if it drops. You can add them as main driver but be carefull not to say they are the main driver when you will be driving it. Shop around. Norwich Union, RAC, Quinn. There are 100's of companies. Get as many quotes as possible.

fair enough, if your area is bad, you cant really do anything about it. just dont crash and get yourself 1ncb, then that 1700 has paid off !
