Hey there, i rang up the insurance company im insuring my car with earlier today to see if i needed to declare an induction kit, up-rated brakes and a de-cat exhaust and if i did, how would it affect insurance. I stayed ananymous and didnt give my name or quote ref. no. so they dont know who it was. The asked what car it was and they said they cannot insure it if it has any performance mods. Its a saxo VTS.

So what should i do?? Remove the mods or just not tell them about them?? I know if i do the latter the insurance may be void.

Jeez, its hard enough tryin to get insured on a VTS.....for a 17 year old:rolleyes:

If you insurance says they can't insure you with modifications then don't modify it.. you may aswell not have insurance if it's void and that is plain stupid....

Buddy your 17 and have a vts already... think yourself lucky :p
Keep it standard for a year or two.. get some no claims bonus and then let the modifying begin... or when your policy runs out get quotes for your car modified with different companies...

I had to wait two years to find a decent enough policy to get my car lowered...

lol, its a killer the insurance to start of with. and even more of killer when you want to mod...

depending on air filter and exhaust you've probably lost power so you can probs try and negotiate a discount with the insurance lol

i tryed to declare. but coz im with direct line they arent having any of it. i should have rang up anonymously :| owell, i take it they arent gonna have a hissy fit if i strip the car of everything? eg back seats, door cards etc. as this is the only way im gonna achieve better acceleration at stock?

not entirely sure on whether stripping the car is a problem with insurance man! :detective:

you're best bet is to discuss with them the addition of 'optional extras' declared on the policy. basically if you buy say some VTR/VTS alloys they can be declared as a dealer upgrade. which usually the insurance companies arent too fussed with :)
