..Alloy tubing be used as an exhaust or will it not last and rust?

when you say 'alloy' do you mean some form of aluminium?
I doubt it as Aluminium alloy undergoes age hardening at elevated temps. so prolong cycling will severely weaken the the material after a relatively small period of time.

alloy is probablies going to be no good mate, its not the best stuff in the world, i mean it wont rust but i doubt it could hold up to the heat

Well online it just says alloy the guys supplys alloy tubing for intercoolers, fuel tanks & induction bends etc. Could it be wrapped like the manifold to protect it?

intercoolers fuel tanks and induction bends dont get heated to the extend of an exhasut though. Wrapping the alloy would only increase the heat it would sustain. The alloy will also be relavitely thin compared to exhaust tubing

What about stainless steel? Would that withstand the exhaust temperature? I dont suppose anybody knows the length from the manifold to the backbox?

stainless steel is what most perfomance exhausts are made from mate. and why do you need to know the length for? obviously what your getting at is you need a new exhaust by the sounds of it. care to elaborate somewhat and perhaps we can help

thats what most aftermarket exhausts are made off so yes mate
best way to measure it is to take the old one off and use that as a template as theres a few bends in the pipe, only way to measure how much pipe is with a bit of string tbh

Well i would like to have a bash at making my own de-cat buy using one pipe from manifold to backbox. Then i woulduse the current pipe cat and original backbox to put back on for MOT. String sounds like a good idea to me, anyone know how to get an accurate diameter? So i can get the right diameter of the pipe to fit snug. Thanks Guys

from your pic you have a mk1, well if you want a decat straight through to the exhaust it will be way easier just to buy a mk2 exhaust lol

Yer it is a mk1 but wouldnt that be pretty expensive im looking at cost and having a bit of fun myself lol
