Hi guys just bought a set of these for my car :) ive fitted front springs but never removed shocks or anything like that ? is it an easy thing to do and does anyone rate these dampners at all ?
Thanks :y:
Ive got them, but didn't fit them as they came with the car.
They are really good imo, ive had a bash in a car with a Koni kit that was dropped 45mm and mine out handled it really easily around corners, and it seemed to have a 'loose' feeling when steering. Although it wasnt as twitchy on the bumps it just didn't take tight corners as fast, it had massive understeer.
The ride on soft is quite comfy but will bottom out on some of the larger bumps in the road, like the white lines and dust you may come across. Also on hard you will have your ass shaken to pieces within minutes. Medium is not bad but still a bit rough. (Im down 60mm)
And also on bumpy corners if your down 60mm you will slide/spin if your going ott. Also under hard braking my back end kicks out quite violently.
IMO go down 40mm and keep it on medium.

Yeh, i've got them but with some avo springs and would definately recommend them!!
I havn't taken it on the track, but on the road the ride is okay with the dampers on soft-medium!!

I fitted the fit myself and removing the dampers wasn't too hard!!If you've got the right tools you'll be fine!
I put a screwdriver in one of the holes on the 'nut' that holds the damper in, and just hammered it round to undo it - then did the same to tighten it.
The hardest bit was physically taking the strut off the car as needed an extra pair of hands to hold the driveshaft in whilst pulling the strut out as it's heavy.

ah right i can remove the strut, its just the shock im worried about, got a quick step by step i cud follow roughly, say after the shock is off the car and spring is removed... Thanks :)

This is what I did:
Once spring is off you'll see a gold 'nut' holding the shock in with 3 holes in it at thirds.
I had the whole strut in a vice horizontal, placed the end of a big flat head screwdriver in one of the holes and hit it downwards to loosen the nut. A Few blows and it's pretty loose, almost 'finger' loose.
Take the nut off, and the shock should come out.
Place a little oil from where the shock came out of (i beleive to stop the shock corroding to the strut?), put new shock in, tighten back up the gold nut to finger tight.
Then i put the strut in the vice again horizontal, and using the screwdriver, hit the nut the other way to tighten it. Few blows until doesn't want to tighten anymore then re-assemble as you took it apart to get the spring off. Then you should jst be able to put it all back together and it's lowered
Sorry if i've missed anything, but that's how I did it from memory, hope it helps!!

thats great mate, rep for you :), one thing, do you mean the top mount bolt or is there a bolt at the base of the strut bit, like the bit that does the dampning ? my struts were replaced in 2002 the front ones for some reason...
Cheers mate

Yeh, there a 'bolt' on the bottom of the 'dampening bit' .
The bolt is like an upside down cup, with a threaded inside. There is a hole in them middle of the 'cup' for the 'dampening bit' to go through. And then three smaller holes around it at thirds, which are used to undo it. You'll see what I mean once you've got the spring off and removed the dust cover.
I'll try and find a picture of what I mean for you.

If you look at the picture of the whole strut in this ebay auction, you can just see the 'nut' im on about at the bottom of the spring, to the left of the little white tag. It's a yellow/bronze colour when clean, but is obviously dirty in the picture!! Hope this makes sense lol, as I think im rambling now !! lol
