VTS or a 106GTI Both standard?
thx

allegedly the 106 because the limiter is supposedly higher... although in the real world no bugger would actually notice the difference :)

repeat after me. 'They are the same car'
bar minor trim differences and panels of course

VTS because it says they're faster on Parkers.
;)
or a GTi cos they cost more and your wallet will be lighter.

It's a shame there's always been this discrepancy between the 0 - 60 time for the cars. The cars themselves are obviously identical, bar some minor (non performance related things)
One question however, why did Clarkson from Top Gear (This is going back a few years!) mention that the gearbox was different, and that the VTS was better suited to the 'boy racer' as it will allow you to hit 60 mph + in 2nd gear??? I thought the gearboxes were the same?!?

here we go again, do a search, in my opinion its all about the driver, get the stig to take them round the track :)

The GTI and VTS are the same. They use the same box, however, the gear ratio's on a VTS are slightly shorter, thus (very slightly marginally) making the VTS quicker to 60. To the naked eye, there's no difference. Its whats on the paper.

I never knew that. Interesting.
KamRacing
12th June 2007, 13:42
any evidence to back that up?
I've yet to hear someone fitting a vts box to a 106 gti and getting a better 0-60. The official figures are just what the two companies want to give out as peugeot managed to get a lower insurance group for the same car I bet that had something to do with it
Karl
12th June 2007, 13:44
yeah they did the same with the GTi6, filled it with crap so itd run a slower 0-60
Peedee
12th June 2007, 13:44
Soz, can't back that up, its what I've heard from some people.
I alway thought the VTS and GTI were the same insurance group? No?

LOL. Is that the Top Gear video?

I can't remember exactly what Clarkson said, but it was something to do with the 0 - 60 time. He mentioned something along the lines of the VTS being able to hit 60 in second gear. WTF?

i always beleived the gti and vts had different gearboxes. i drove a gti a long time ago and when i went through the gears you had to let the stick settle before puttin it in another gear :S fuck noes what was wrong with that :P
(that was back in the day when i was jsut a tiny trainee :) )

Yep vts is quicker standard, citroen have different gear ratios compared to the gti to make it quicker to 60. But its only like .4 of a second if that
Borat

What is quicker between a VTS and a VTS?
Driver?
Odd thread this one!
Is the GTi well looked after? Is the VTS well looked after?
If any of the two cars are quicker it will be such an insignificant amount, out of the two I'd have the 106 as they're not too popular up this neck of the woods!
Borat

0.4 is actually a fair amount between two cars of this size and weight, I'll eat my words

That is complete and utter BOLLOXXXXX!!!!!!!
Why do people think these strange things about the ECU and Gear box? Where did they come from?
Clarkson was going off the book figures. He mentions nothing about the gear ratios being different on the saxo. He just said that both cars have a long 2nd gear. I have the clip.
chrisni1986
14th June 2007, 12:24
the vts has a taller 2nd gear.. thats why the car bogs a little when in goes into 2nd gear... hence the vts having the faster 0-60
mardon
14th June 2007, 12:49
Nope your wrong. They both bog down. Have you driven both?
I have, it all depends on how its driven. Stick on a induction kit and exhaust and it doesn't box down as much.

14th June 2007, 15:33
Both cars are mechanically 100% exactly the same!
Find out the part no. for the gearbox, VTS & GTi will be the same!

Martin.
