Right guys with the show fast appraoching i need a hand,

i have been really polishing the lip on my borbets to get them looking like a mirror,

now my vdubbed frends, tell me i cant get the lip to a mirror finish as im just polishing lacquer, from the the paint, they said to really achieve the high mirror finish, you need to polish beneath the lacquer to polish the metal,

no i know this means sanding the lip down to get rid of paint then alot of elbow grease, (same as vt wheels)

the only thing im worried about is the wheels becoming porrous if i go at the metal too much,

also any tips on polishing and remove the paint

porosity is the measure of microscopic voids in a material man, i dont think that has anything to do with whether its exposed or not. depending on the alloy composition you'll want to treat the exposed area to prevent corrosion... there is some very good stuff available but i cant remember the name of it... if you check riggsy's thread about his polished 'S wheels there is a link in there for the correct stuff

sand the laquer and paint off, polish then laquer again. Should allow the mirror finish to stay corrosion free.

yes but surely wont the finish diteriorate uner the lacquer once polished
there would be no way to polish it again as you would have the same problem, polishing the lacquer

i would mask the alloys(not dish) and will use nitromorse to get rid of the lacquer on the dish. then start ploishing the dish with a polishing kit using the right compounds. this will give you a mirror finish but will need cleaning regularly to stop the metal from corroding. if you lacquer the metal-it will most likely to flake and it u will lose some of the shine

dont see how it could be affected, the laquer will stop contact with air or moisture.

Could just polish them then not do anything altho you would have to take good care of them, keep them clean and give them a polish up once a week or so, wont be as hard as the 1'st time.

you'll just ruin nice wheels at the end of the day. If you haven't got a clue what you're doing leave them alone or get a professional to do it.
