I had that problem on my 1.1.... Don't think there is anything you can do really mate unless you change it....

If its a back box with a standard centre section then it shouldnt be That loud so but if you find it uncomfortable to drive with rather than replace the exhaust try lining the boot with more sound deading, either find another sound deading panel which is basically just thick foam which sits under you boot carpet from a scapy or use some old house carpet just to take the edge off the boomy note from the exhaust.

If you have had a straight through centre section put or in other words had the centre siliencer removed have it put back or buy a standard pattern VTR centre section.

might aswell just buy a Magnex system mate.
theyre quiet and should give you a noticable difference in performance.

You didnt mention what kind of layout your exhaust is.

Manifold - Cat - Centre Box - Back Box

Manifold - Decat - No Box - Back Box

etc etc

Also if it was a custom job and you used a Universal Jap style can then its bound to be loud as most compact universal cans have hardly if not no baffles in them at all which is what reduces the exhaust note.

A off the shelf sports exhaust shouldnt be too loud unless its straight pipework from the manifold to the back box and again alot depends on the back box itself.

Get some pic's up that way I'll be able to tell if its a direct fit item or custom job that way I'll be able to give the best advice on what to change and what not to to fabricate a more quiter system
