is this illegal?. ie have 50 on the back and 45 on the front.

nope its not illegal.
You'll get some funny handling characteristics though.

shouldnt think the car will handle as good as it should cant believe a diff size tyre will be that much more expensive ...

it's legal bud as long u have the same profile along the same axle eg 50 on back both sides and 40 on front both sides

when i got my car it had 60 on the front and 55 on the back :panic: same with richie and a few others off here...... madness

It is fine as long as they are the same profile say front and same back. It will not be being different size wheels though.
