Right tomorrow I'm getting a CD player fitted for my birthday :P CD player is half price and so is fitting but do Halfords fit the CD players well or do they tend to not put everything back where it's meant to be, leave the facia loose so it rattles etc. how much of a close eye do I need to keep on the guy, he seems a little confused about Saxo's especially MK1's so just wonderring about any past experiences and I'll let you know how it goes.
Oh and the reason I'm getting them at Halfords to do it, obviously because I'm a newbie at anything ICE and I'm going away and losing my car for three days before I leave and kinda want it fitted before i go this weekend :A:

I have more hatred for halfords than the Nazi's.
Shooorn... i'm confident you can do the job yourself... and avoid getting ripped off on the fitting :)

lol at ads :p
i had my first ever unit fitted at halfords but it was a bloke in his 40's and he knew what he was doing, plus i bagged free fitting off him, so thats the reason i got it fitted off them, id only get them to do it if they offer free fitting, they usually charge 40 pound and if they do that fit it yourself, really simple to fit, ill even help you out
actually its something to do so fit it yourself :y:

I've just spoke to my mum she's confirmed that when she bought the CD player she got £20 quid fitting for me. I told her I needed it, and to be honest I would love to fit it myself, but hey I plan on doing the rest-side door speakers, rear and possibly a removable boot build (money dependant) all by myself and I'll definitely need some help with that lol :y: so in future I should avoid completely lol, I'll tell you how it went. But the fitting is really for convenience as I'm losing my car  so that the horn and airbag warning light are fixed until Saturday, and go away Monday. I have my 18th Party on the Saturday as well lol. Thanks anyway guys :)
And I'm now officialy 18 (12:17am)

lol, my mate bought a headunit and they fitted it for him - they couldnt even fit the stereo in properely and it stuck out by 2 inches. he ended up coming to me and i sorted it for him. some people in halfords havent got a clue - i wouldnt trust them washing my car never mind modding it.lol
personally wouldn't bother unless it was free, easy job changing HU tbh

this is a silly poll as it all depends on which halfords you go to.
Some of the halfords have got people working there that are at the top of their game and do it because they enjoy it.
However the majority are there to pay for beers at the end of the week and couldnt really care less, treating it as a joke.
Talk to someone there and make your own judgement.

I know a few people who work there, so i get all fittings etc free. i mean theyre not amazing, its hardly some major feat, fitting a head unit, but they did it and fair play it is their job.
Try doing it yourself and if you get stuck ask them.

its really not difficult to fit a new headunit, take the original out, slide the ne one in, plug it in and off you go.

suppose its an easy mistake to make, (do ya mean the red and yellow wires?) but as said, its easy enough to do yourself, and a good way to learn! :y:

I know I really want to do it myself :( tell you what I'll remove it then put it back in again with your help :P but as the fittings alreay purchased and it'll be alot quicker... and by the sounds of it, it is an easy job so they can't make that many mistakes (I knew this already but wasn't completely sure i would get the help I required, but now I know to rely on you helpful bunch ;))

Yeah the bloke who is doing mine looked like he knew what he was doing, but looks can be deceiving. It's being done at 2pm so afterwards I'll tell you how it went, and If I'm not happy I'll march right up to them and shove it in their faces :p I'm good like that! For example i returned an item to poundland :zainy:

Yup, considering its colour coded cant really blame the guy for going along with it! Glad i yanked it all out though and had a look, good to give it a go yourself!

Depends which one you go to as people have said before.
reddysaxo and Predator_VTR, try team valley instead (unless you get served by adam, in which case don't ask him about amps lol), I have to serve myself when I go to other stores lol

yeah sure they do :p
I am not doubting that there are many people employed by halfords that do not know the first thing about car modifications however i just didnt really like the way that CooperVTR implied that everyone who works at Halfords is a useless waster!!

to stop this argument completely before it escalates out of control I have the news on the £160 headunit just fitted.
Ok pulled up at Halfords. Same bloke came out with his tools, recognises the mud splattered white saxo (driving off grass after wet conditions) and he told me to be back in half an hour. So I went to walk off then realised he would need my keys :n: handed them over... reluctantly, and watched as he fiddeled around..
my sister walked over to Pets at home and i followed and heard my car start up! He had to move her to the store... he safely pulled her up into the disabled parking and there seemed to be alot of tugging going on :panic:
anyway i was in desperate need of the loo so i went to KFC and then walked back, he'd finished :y: he came straight up to me (looking quite exhausted) handed me the keys told me where she was parked and I began my fiddling!... It all works, everything works, and the annoying crackling my speakers made is fixed :y: I don't need to buy new ones and fit them right before sunday, sorted (touch wood) :A: Ok I'll keep you posted if anything goes wrong, but an electrician is fiddling with my car on thursday (garage i bought the car from need to fix some bits) so if it's not halfords it'll be the electrician.
Ok enjoy your days and I'll enjoy my birthday ;)
