View Full Version : How long to keep the Saxo?

How long do you think you'll keep the Saxo?
I'm asking this because there's a post on the forum about moving on and it started me off thinking about a few other things.
Firstly, I once had an Astra GSI (MK3) and kept it 8 years which I regret. Nothing wrong with the car, I loved it (obviously) but I wish I'd sold it sooner because I now wish that I'd owned other cars, such as a Pug205 or 5GTT. For this reason, I won't keep a car for any longer than 3 years again.
This is why I've had to stop myself from modding the Sax because if I do, I know I'll want to keep it for years, especially if I go down the cams and map route.
What do other people think?

I don't think i can say ill keep the saxo for x amount of years. Will prob be when the mileage isn't so much it isn't sellable. Would rather sell for over 1k and get another one than struggle to sell with like 110K on the clock.
Other than that i just get bored of cars, had 4 in the last 2 years and i know ill be doing the same again with the next few cars.

Depends on your circumstances really mate. Things usually change once you
start a family/buy a house.
Cause of the amount of money Ive spent on the Pug it would be pointless to
sell it anytime soon.

That's fair enough, I thought the exact same thing with my Astra but now regret it - see above.
Don't you fancy trying something else? So many good cars out there!

I hope to keep mine until it dies, which could be a while as it only has 26,000 miles on the clock.
It's exactly a year today since I put the deposit down on it.

You see I don't know what to do yet, as I'll be 22 by the end of March next year, and will have the money for a new car, but I was thinking keep the Saxo (even if I do have a love/hate relationship with it) and get a house, or option 2 is to get a new car, then a house. I can't decide which to do first!!
But I would like to keep it, but I don't have the love for it at the moment, but then again that could all change by my birthday! :P

Well I don't have my Saxo anymore, but I owned my first one for 2 years then owned my VTR for over 6 years. As you have said about wanting to own different cars, I agree... i have had an FTO, an MR2 Roadster and I now own an Astra Coupe Turbo.... will probably own this for another couple of years, then move on to something else.

I'd love to move onto to something else like a Leon Cupra R or an Audi A3 but I want an house and I have a kid to look after, so I might aswell keep the car that is paid for and that I still enjoy having.

Im either keeping mine untill mot time next february, or until it dies, whichever comes first...which will probably be the later lol! and by that time it will have well over 130K on the clock so will have to part the baby out :panic:

not assed about buying a better car... I only get into a car to go to some other destination. I dont see a car as device for bedding slags either because I can automatically do that. having said that I fancy a VTS as a second car to keep the beast company.

Yea, when i'm old enough i want a vts, so i'm gonna give my bro the one i've got now so that it's still in the family. But yea i'd never sell it coz it wudn't be worth much as it's got nearly 98k on the clock!!

I bought mine with a view of keeping it throughout uni and then sell it when I left. I left uni about a month ago and have had my saxo 3 and a half years. So I put it up for sale but wasn't sure whether I really wanted to let it go. I put it up for a price I thought was quite high and said if someone offered me that much I would be mad not to sell it. I got 8 emails lol
But I couldn't sell it yet. I can't think of another car that ticks the boxes of what I need it for at the moment that I want or can afford. So I'm going halves on either a TVR Chimaera or Griffith with my boyfriend and keeping the saxo as my everyday car. It's cheap to run, cheap to fix if it goes wrong and cheap to insure and gets good MPG while still being fun

Ill be keeping mine as ive spent an absolute potload on it which ill never get back. I enjoy the car and have no reason to part with it.
I will however when affordable buy another car as my daily work horse probably a small diesel so i can keep the saxo fresh and garaged up apart from weekend use and nice warm days :) itll become a classic one day lol
Then when ive settled down the mrs and i will probably have a reasonable size family car too if/when kids are born

It might have been my thread you was reading about growing out of Saxo's, as Im hopefully gona start looking for a Ford Mondeo ST200 after the summer as my situation has changed and a Striped out hot hatch just doesnt make sense anymore and me and the missis have talked about going to one car (the ST200) as we work together aswell.
Its one of them things, if you have the money to afford a second car, one that is sensable then there would be no reason to get rid of a mod'd saxo but for most of use its one and one car only and when you have living with somebody and things need doing round the house etc a mod'd hot hatch doesnt quite tick all the boxes -however much you'd like it to.
Alot of people get stuck on Saxos like other cars but what somepeople dont understand not all of use are single, living at home and just have the car to spend money on.
Thats one of the reasons we are getting a bigger car, all the perks but still with abit of pony power to entertain me when I want to move on abit.
Somepeople will stick with saxos for along time, I can see people like Cloud, Saxo180 and a few others which see their saxos as a long term project but they have or seem to have the cash to back it up where as I dont so Im afriad at some point VTS_16v_Boy will just be _Boy :(
