There are two power wires goin into the back of the headunit mate. Underneath the headunit there should be a little diagram, on there youll be able to see which two these are.
If not, they should both have a blue colour on them, the remote wire is the thinner of the two its a very thin wire, the thicker one is the main power cable.
To test to see if it is, strip the wire down a bit, turn off the ignition and test for voltage with a voltmeter/bulb/tongue lol

On most it is the one with the white strip :)
But actually both work fine as I found out :p

blue with white strip should be the remote, there either blu or blu with white strip
is it a pioneer headunit??
if you take the unit out, there usually have a sticker with a wiring diagram on the actual headunit

obviously have the model number of the headunit ready :y: just if you use a switched live off another device on the car it may be to powerful, i think the remote wire kicks out a lower voltage so you may need a fuse or a resistor if you took it off a switched live
