Ive been told by one of my friends that (By law),
you aren't allowed to tint your front side windows anymore due to the law being changed.
Is this true?
I know a guy in dundee who does it for £150 and does a professional job so im thinking of geting that next Mod! smileys/smiley4.gif

the law states or used to that you can have no more than a 30% tint on the front two windows

basically, the law was introduced 31st january 2004 that (as james says) you can have no more than 30% tint on the driver and passenger side windows.
this is not due to the fact that its too dark for the driver to see outside. it is so that the police are able to tell who's driving the car, if they're on a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt.
some police cars carry a laser gauge that can determine whether or not sufficient light passes through the windows. i got pulled over about two weeks ago. i have ILLEGAL front side windows, but the police did not have the gauge and so they could not get me to take them out. was VERY lucky that time!
if you are pulled over by the police and they can proove that your front side windows are too dark, then you may be asked to take the film out on the spot. some people can TRY and get away with it by saying, well the tints were on the car since middle of last year or something (i.e. when there was no law) but the police say, well this is the law now and you have to take them out.
also something to bear in mind. when your car goes for its m.o.t, it will NOT fail due to the tint on the windows. i have been told that this is something only the police can check and make you do something about it.

you can tint the 2 side back windows and rear window with any tint and the front side 2 with no more than 30%, as for sunstrips it cannot be any more than 12 inches in depth and the wiper blades cannot come in contact with it, this is all above board. smileys/smiley4.gif

yeah, i'm going for chrome to black all round on tuesday, not too dark, i'm gonna allow the 30% although they're still illegal as it has a refelctive property smileys/smiley4.gif
its abit of a grey area to be honest, not many police have the laser light guns to check the darkness off the tint. Also it is possible to get 3 points per front window if the coppers really wanna be nasty...so its best not to go too dark smileys/smiley3.gif

I can get them done for 150 so it might be worth while.
When i was in auto save on saturday purchasing my ind.kit,i picked up there magazine and inside it-it gave you step by step instructions on how to tint ur windows.
It looks dead easy but woah!! i aint even considering doing it as i might get an air bubble or do sumfin wrong smileys/smiley7.gif
Has anyone done it themselves or have u just got the pro's in?
jamesg88
4th October 2004, 01:56

chrome to black tints will cost more because it will cost more for the company to buy the tint as it is more techinical to make the sheets for it.
250 is fairly priced for a chrome to black all round tint mate.
anywhere in the region of 250-300 you would be looking at for chrome to black.
haha well i do like to give my advice the best i can now and again smileys/smiley17.gif
