Im debating training to become a pe teacher for primary school age children.
Does anyone know any info about what courses you need etc and if i need a degree?
Rep given for any help.
im lookin into this for a career, your gona need a degree but i think you can do a course thing that has you fully qualified in 18 months if everything goes well.
Obviously your gonna need to have had the subject you want to do about to a-level standard, and with primary schools you dont just teach one subject?
So maybe thats something to look into mate
Hope what i've said has helped in some way!
degree plus one year PGCE after uni, or a 4 year teaching degree.
yeah you definately need a degree, not a lot of primary schools have teachers for seperate subjects they generally have to be able to teacher all lessons, not just pe.
a degree and PGCE will take you about 4 years in all to complete including work placements etc

do primary school teachers get paid the same amount as high school teachers? lol
To teach PE in Primary schools you just do as I said above - 3 yr degree (4 yr in scotland) followed by a PGCE, or do the full Teaching Degree (4yrs up here not sure about England). You'll need work experience before they let you on any teaching course though, ideally as a classroom assistant or in the case of a PE teacher, teaching in a gym (spinning classes etc) is accepted. Once qualified as a PE teacher you then can apply for jobs in both scoendary and primary schools.
Graham- yes they do, works on a sliding scale starting at just over 19k on your probationary year after uni, then goes up by about 1500 a year after that.
