If your looking for job suggestions it might be worth letting us know a few more details...

How old are you? what qualifications do you have? etc.. as most managerial roles etc. require degrees...

As far as i am aware you can become a car salesman at the age of 16 or over... but it is unlikely to get a job in the profession until your a little older... as they will be looking for someone mature, well presentable and with great communication skills... qualities not many 16year olds possess...

I don't think any specific qualifications are needed... i think most of the training would be given on the job...

Well you start of as a junior salesman(Its like an appretership) and that lasts depending on each garage.Im on 3months probation but alot of people had to work as a junior for about a year or more. For me the first 3months is just learning the paper work and preety much driving cars all day and deal with customers and bring them on test drives I suppose. The money is not good at first but once you start earning commission its ok as you should be able too double your wage and just live of commission. Also just ring around and ask dealers if they are looking for junior a salesman or just walk in with a Cv and ask them. The worst that can happen is that they say no so its not a big deal just go to the next place and leave them with a Cv

I saw a few car salesman jobs being listed on online job websites like 'fish4jobs'.. so find out where there are local vacancies....

I wouldn't email them... to be a saleman it would be all about your personal presentation... so going into the dealerships themselves and enquiring yourself would be the best bet... make sure you look smart... and plan exactly what you are going to say...

Good luck... let us know how you get on :y:

Well if your interested in it, the learning bit is easy and its fairly basic stuff anyway. You just have to watch and listen to others as they are doing the stuff and talking to the customers as thats the way you learn what to say and what not to say to customers aand also by the way I forgot to say you need a full license. The pay isnt to bad.Starting of its just under 20000 euros for me so I dont know what that is stg but thats excluding commission and you usualy get a company car. What you think?

cheers mate, do you reckon places like the jobcentre would have these sort of jobs available?

furioAL
1st July 2007, 23:55
I don't think you would find car salesman jobs through an agency or job centre... i think it is a reasonably competitive trade to go into... so they don't really have to advertise... best to call up a few local dealerships and explain your situation... show that you are keen and conscientious... and see what they can do for you..

My next door neighbour works for jaguar/aston martin... so naturally every weekend he brings home a different aston :p obviously you have to be a fair bit older to get one of them :p

Well over here nearly all garages have junior sales people so I dont see why it wouldnt be the same there.Well it depends.I always like to aim high so I appliedto the only Porsche dealer in Ireland and I also applied to Toyota through ringing them and going to meet them personally but as as FurioAl sais look on the web.By the way I actualy got offered both jobs and naturaly ud think of choosing Porsche but when I thought about it, Toyota are the top sellers in Ireland and I reckon I can earn alot more money at Toyota so thats how im now working in the second best selling Toyota garage in the country. All questions welcome by the way in case you have anymore, id be happy to help you out:y:

Im also intrested in this i was just wandering if anyone has some advice on what the best approach would be ? ive been working at halfords for 1 year in sales and service, and ive worked in two other company again doing sales over the telephone, i was just wandering what i could say too

"why do you want to leave your current job?"

"and what makes you want to become a car salesman ?"

And other ways obviusly presenting your self well is a big factor, but i feel they will think because ive been selling over the phone, that theyll think i wont be able to do that in person and wont class it as "experience" :(

Thanks Guys. im 19 BTW.

my (17 year old) mate got a job at Seat when he was 16 no problems. Think they were looking for a trainee. Basic wage was good, plus bonuses and stuff. And he got 10% of whatever car he sold, not sure if that bits true though.
