My comps came 2day...(Infinity 5020cs) :P

Went to Halfords to use the tools (i work there)...
Pulled the door card off (EVENTUALLY)
DRILLED out the old rivets out of the SHITROEN speakers
Did all the WIERING (used crimpets and everything) to crossovers and Wooohooofers

Then i came to hide the CROSSOVERS behind the DOORCARDS but the COROSSOVERS are too big :panic: I tried everywhere...but the CARDS wouldn't go back on.
EVENTUALLY i managed to mount them in the TOP CORNER (near the wing mirror) behind the card. But its NOT perfect. I did however manage to get the TORQ screw in, but the DOORCARD is bending a lil bit in the corner.

Now all that's left to do is decide HOW and WHERE to mount the tweeters.(I don't what them on the door card like the norm)lol

All PICTURES much appreciated (In fact i would like loads), tips and ideas welcome too

Thanx allot :y:

Chris

can tell you work at halfords :p 6 hours and your still not done, i could probs wire a whole install up 2 amps, sub, comps and make a simple false floor install in 6 hours!

LMAO. Im fairly new there :P

But im my defence iv never even come close to installing comps or even takin the door card off my saxo. Im 17 and fairly new to modding.

But 6 hours was from the time i started to the time i gave up for the day and drove home (the time includes having to deal with a customer o_0 on my day off o_0 and goin to Maccies oh and having to stop due to heavy rain.

top corners of the a-pillars? like top left and right of the windscreen if you get what i mean that would be ded cool!!!

time_to_ride
3rd July 2007, 23:03
I thought about puttin them there also though about on the pillars just to the side of you and behind you. Though about mounting them up there also.

id just love to see some pics of others before i do

tweeters are best mounted at ear height tbh, so ideally the front pillars and make some builds for them, but all i did with mine is get an angled cup adaptor (which i got in the set) and put it at the top corner of the doorcard

other places ive seen them, mounted on the dash either towards you or bouncing of the windscreen, not sure about that though tbh always see some ice specialists do it and seen them do it in smart cars

as for the crossover, mount it either on in the back pocket of the doorcard or if you dont want it on show under the dash or even under the seats

time_to_ride
3rd July 2007, 23:12
Thanx pred :y:
I dont fancy the door bins or the seat tbh. I'll see how they goin behind the cards for now.

It just those dam tweeters now that are doin my head in coz i wanna do as lil damage to my car as possible. If you hget what i mean...(for when i come to sell it)

Ben_C
3rd July 2007, 23:12
why you not want crossover on show? Looks cool!

I have a thing about wires..i don't like to see them

Predator_R32
3rd July 2007, 23:17
you dont have to see the wires just a tiny bit of them heres mine anyway

i dont fancy that tbh. thanx though.

For now i need to focus on the tweeters :)

RedB
3rd July 2007, 23:22
they look tidy pred and are a popular option, i would turn that round the other way tho

How about mounting tweeters into dual pod pillar mounts each side and adding a guage alongside each side?

Either that or facing you just left and below the mirror adjust switch sitting flat on the sill

Saw this today on a Nissan Pulsar GTR and looked subtle but very nice

That's how I have mine, but I thought I'd make the wires look a bit nicer by getting some thick, low-awg wire from halfords in a nice transparent blue

time_to_ride
3rd July 2007, 23:30
think its gonna be on the mirror thing.

HOW DO I MOUNT THEM?

Thanx

Predator_R32
3rd July 2007, 23:35
could always buy some spare a pillars and either just screw them onto there or make some tweeter builds

http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=25&Itemid=26

i need to get some more speaker wire tbh for them looks pig ugly like that :p

time_to_ride
3rd July 2007, 23:40
looks ok. but i think im set on having them like lukes :P

Did he just screw the mounts into the mirror thing?

SunderZ
3rd July 2007, 23:40
thats a well tidy little thing to do good find pred..

Predator_R32
3rd July 2007, 23:41
been trying to find it for ages and you dont really have to have the cup can just make the basic shape from some mdf

think there screwed in mate

RedB
3rd July 2007, 23:42
That guide is mint mate and thats what i meant in my first post ;)
Thing is that if you look at the angle and position of the build it doesnt sit right to face the correct way ie the housing is to flat if you know what i mean

Id also never let any carpet touch it and would spray it gunmetal chrome ;)

Predator_R32
3rd July 2007, 23:48
yeah i would have it pointing more towards the front seats but thats very easily done, i was going to do it but now have my gage pod there and will leave holes in the doorcards so its not worth it, i may make some just for the hell of it though :p

RedB
3rd July 2007, 23:56
After FCS i WILL def be doing this as i think it would look great in my car IMO

That guy is ledgendary considering he was a complete amateur to start with iv read through 3 or 4 guides and am really impressed. Was going to rep but
Your reps already largest on the site and your list must be as long as my.. :p

You get the pic, cheers mate :y:
How long you reckon you can do it in?

Predator_R32
4th July 2007, 00:02
lol

i reckon i could make some start to finish within about 4 - 5 days working about 4 hours at a time on them

you have got to be careful though as resin sometimes warps the plastic ive found

RedB
4th July 2007, 00:09
Really? how long do you have to leave in between resin coats?

I reckon i could do this over a weekend along with some other stuff

Predator_R32
4th July 2007, 00:11
resin depends on the weather and how much hardner you use, will be really hard in a few hours id say

RedB
4th July 2007, 00:17
depends, i will be really hard in a few hours id say

what was that pred?:p

Def up for making those custom pillars and il build some guage mounts for a few guages (volt and RPM) into them at the same time

Predator_R32
4th July 2007, 00:21
lol putting things in my mouth now ;)

RedB

pred make me some of them and i'll love you for ever and ever and ever!

time_to_ride
4th July 2007, 14:20
heres mine 5364

How are they mounted m8?

Predator_R32
4th July 2007, 14:24
on mine the bottom of the cup/tweeter is screwed into place with a screw and anotehr hole drilled for the wires, then the tweeter is put in and the top cup is clipped on over it

baz - may do i may do :p

time_to_ride
4th July 2007, 14:29
seems worth it pred, as you get his love "for ever and ever and ever!" :p

liam_b
4th July 2007, 15:11
same as pred just sed

RedB
4th July 2007, 19:32
You going for the simple method then Chris mate?

time_to_ride
4th July 2007, 21:26
Trying to Mr Barker :p
As its my first car i will be selling it on at some point and i dont want to be fannying around with the comps and there being a big hols my door card.

And there is also the fact its simple :p i dont want to challenge myself too much when i dont have too much money to replace things if i fuck up

time_to_ride
8th July 2007, 22:13
Ok, I've been working too much to get anything done, but hopefully I'll mount my tweeters tomorrow, just like Luke has; as a temporary means until I get round to making a fiberglass pod :p

I'll post tomorrow night with pictures if its a success.

OR

Ill be posting/swearing if i cant find the drill

Predator_R32
8th July 2007, 22:22
im still debating on whether to make some tweeter builds, just not surte :p need some new doorcards though as it will be left with 2 holes in them :(

time_to_ride
8th July 2007, 22:37
Do it stevie. Some charcoal faux suede trimmed tweeter pod would really finish off your interior :y:
you know you want to :p

Predator_R32
8th July 2007, 22:52
a know, would have to kind of change my doorcards again and i was thinking of getting the ones similar to what hazza had but he sold them but i may have sourced some more

would mean retrimming the pillar pods, the middle bit on the install, the pods and the ipod holder, hmmmmmmm :p

time_to_ride
8th July 2007, 22:57
Haha, sounds like a big project just for some 1" tweeters :p
How about if you make some pods where the mirror caps are and the trim it with your charcoal faux suede?

Stick a grommet in the door card till you get round to changing them :p

Predator_R32
8th July 2007, 23:00
lol nah if i do it has to be done right :p, i could actually make them on the mirror bits actually, not a bad idea, but i think there best at ear height and pointing towards me, think ill try the blu tack method again :)

time_to_ride
8th July 2007, 23:07
lol, the grommet was a joke :p

I think they'll look good there, plus they will be higher up than they are now :)

Predator_R32
8th July 2007, 23:13
yeah ill see, i may do both and sell the ones i dont want :)

time_to_ride
