I know this should be in the car insurance section but i think that i would get more answers in this section
right im with quinn direct and says on the policy that i can drive any other car aslong as the car has insurance
im looking to get a starlet turbo and insurance is £1200TPFT which is great:P
only £200 more than my fiesta:afro:
My gf can get insurance on the starlet for £700 fully comp
Do you think it would be ok for me to drive it on my insurance
thanks guys
(mods if you think it should be moved please move it)

What you have said doesnt make sence.
Sounds like you want to insure it TPFT on your name, and a seperate policy in your GFs name fully comp???
what are you on about?
I got an infraction for doing this.
Never start it with
I know it should be in this section but....
Learnt my lesson ;)
if your fully comp on your fiesta, ring your insurance and ask if you can drive other cars.

Sorry but why doesnt it make sence
Ive got a fiesta now and insured with quinn direct on TPFH which i pay £800 odd for
admiral will insure me on a starlet turbo in my own name for £1200
yet my gf who is 19 can can insurance on a starlet for £700
What im thinking is if i pay her to insure the car and i drive it on my quinn insurance
hope thats better to understand

that makes more sense, thats what i was guessing you was saying but anyway....
Yes thats possible, but you will onlybe insured Third party.
But wouldnt it be cheaper to not pay your gf that, get rid of the fiesta and buy the car. the way your doing at the moment £1500 for Third party ONLY insurance.

i thought you had to be 25 to have that cover!
Id ring quinn and check they aren't the most honest insurance company out there..
and if you crash Gav they will try to squirm their way out of it

quinn will let a TPFT driver drive someone else's car who is also TPFT???
With Quinn Direct, even on a 3rd party policy you can drive any other car third party at any age.

8th July 2007, 21:05
I'm with quinn TPFT, and i'm 99.9% sure, that i can drive any Car (not company cars, vans, jeep types or any other crap), so long as it is NOT insured by the owner, and as long as it is NOT in my name.
Its pretty crap to be fair, but thats my understanding of it, give me 2 mins and i'll quote it from my policy book.
DavidKent
8th July 2007, 21:10
On my insurance certificate it says:
'The Policyholder, if they have a full EU Licence, may also drive, with the permission of the owner, any Private motor car subject to the terms and conditions of the policy'
The policy book then says
'If your certificate of insurance says so, we will also cover you, the policy holder, for your liability to other people while you are driving any other privately owned motor car which you do not own or have not hired under a hire-purchase or lease agreement, as long as:
The Vehicle is not owned by your employer or hired to them under a Hire-Purchase or lease agreement
You currently Hold a full EU Licence
The use of the vehicle is covered on the certificate of insurance
Cover is not provided by any other insurance
You have the owners permission to drive the vehicle
The vehicle is in a roadworthy condition
And you still have your vehicle and it has not been damaged beyond cost effective repair.
Hope this helps

Oh yeah, this doesn't include
Vans
Car-Vans
Jeep Type Vehicles
or Vans adapted to carry passengers
So basically you can drive any of your mates cars as long as they aint jeeps/vans
DavidKent
9th July 2007, 05:50
And as long as your mate doesn't have insurance i think!? Or is that saying so long as i don't have insurance on that vehicle already?
Japman
9th July 2007, 06:54
i think it meens that aslong as the other car is insurard you can drive it on quinn policy, thats what the police told me when they read the policy
DavidKent
9th July 2007, 17:53
Oh right, the impression i got was that it can't be insured.
I'm going to ring quinn and ask!
DavidKent
9th July 2007, 17:56
Just rang them.
Yes, I am insured on any Private CAR, regardless of engine size or mods, third party only, so long as i am not named on the owners insurance, and the car doesn't belong to me!
Legend! lol
Yup thats how it works and what a lot of my mates do....:)
DavidKent

b0t13
12th July 2007, 00:23
the other car DOESNT have to be insured, with quinn they dont mind either way.
R66CE_O_vtr
12th July 2007, 00:28
yeh im with quinn. u can drive any car engine size the lot it doesnt matter and the car doesnt have to be insures. just taxed and mot'd. which is a result most companies you have 2 be 21. i think its just quinn and bell

12th July 2007, 07:03

12th July 2007, 18:53
so if i was to buy a toyota supra twin turbo and register it my dads name i could drive the car even if he wasnt insured on the car?that is awesome if i can do that
DavidKent
12th July 2007, 18:54
You would still need to keep your other car, it needs to still be in your name, and can't be damaged beyond economical repair etc etc...
But yeah you could, though i wouldn't make a habit of it.. third party only too remember!
htidjedi
12th July 2007, 19:03
im only third party on my VTR now anyway so wudnt make any difference to the amount of cover i would have
DavidKent
12th July 2007, 19:05
Just the fire and theft aspect, even if your VTR was fully comp though, you'd still only have third party on the other car...
I was tempted with the idea though! lol
b0t13
12th July 2007, 19:05
plus if it gets stolen the supra wont be insured, so ud lose it.
but you can legally drive it yes!
htidjedi
12th July 2007, 19:23
I cant see my car getting stolen where i live, its so quiet round here its unbelievable, plus i would make sure the car has an immobiliser and a good alarm and park it in the garage

12th July 2007, 21:39
Do you have to be the policy holder to get TPFT cover on other people's cars or does it apply to named drivers aswell?
DavidKent
12th July 2007, 21:42
Would go fully comp anyway lol if i had the money...
You don't get TPFT on other cars anyway, its only the Policy Holder, and its only Third party only!
Japman
13th July 2007, 06:56

ull find if you go on piston heads you can get a mint sky line for under 4 k lol
im thinking of spending 3.2 on a starlet, hhhmmmmmmm
DavidKent
14th July 2007, 22:43
lol fair play i suppose.. still £4k you'll lose if you crash it! lol
Same i suppose if you're third party on the sax or something, but i probably wouldn't trust it..
Great temporary solution though thats for sure!

I dont get this.......my mates fully comp so this usually means he can drive any other car with his insurence but other cars will only be covered for TPFT.....but my other mate said he cant cos he aint 21?
Im with quinn but im a named driver with my brother on TPFT so can i drive anyother car then? see i dont get it cant see how u can drive another car even if it hasnt got insurence theres got to be a catch somewhere along the line

Ring them up mate,i know its hard to beleave but it even says in the plolicy
DavidKent
15th July 2007, 10:33
vtrChris... IT doesn't need to be insured by the owner or anything, i've already asked.
I have asked numerous questions on this, as i found it hard to believe myself, its just an addon to the policy, it has no age restrictions in the policy book either, s though its hard to believe, we can drive any privately owned CAR, if we're insured with quinn, and our insurance will cover us for third party only.
To be fair, thats that extension to the policy, however if the owner of a really nice car knows you're only insured third party only, chances are you're not going to be allowed to drive it, or atleast not far?!

i know how this seems like a good deal... which it is.. i was doing the same myself for a while when hardly anybody knew about it... think about it though.. the price of buying, running, taxing two cars.. plus theres a risk of crashing the fast car (which you will buy) that ur driving on your 3rd party extension which would put you back even further that wen your started in the first place... to be honest i know how cool it would be to drive about in a scooby or the likes wen your 19/20/21 but its honestly cheaper in the long run to hold out till your a bit older with more years ncb.. trust me i know...

what my plan would be is to buy a little run arund cheap insurance then get a monster for the weekends
DavidKent
17th July 2007, 20:14
Yeah that wouldn't be so bad.
Remember though, the fast car cannot belong to you (or be in your name basically, they don't have to know its your car in your dads name or something).
If the car belongs to yourself, you're not covered under the extension.
Cheers for the rep gav, rep'd back!

Yeah to be honest it rocks but there again have 2 run to cars really depends 1 if you can afford the fast car you want 2 if you can afford to run it and 3 if you smash it into a tree you get nowt but the recovery bill.

yes im with quiinn and was thinking of changing my insurance to like a 1.0 saxo. buying a rx7 registering it in my dads name and driving that. Its a stupid rule that they have and i think they will probably be changing it very soon.
i spoke to a lady from quinn and i asked her "so you can insure me on a VTS, yet if my mate has a ferrari im allowed to drive that?" and she sez yes :panic: :panic:

I'd check the small print on the policy - alot of insurance companys say "that you are covered 3rd party on any other vehicle as long as that vehicles main driver has insurance!"
