Maplins had a sale on.

Wireless broad ban router (11mbs per sec) upto 250 computers contected at once. AND a laptop wireless reciever card to match.

All for just £60

So i stripped out my wired router at home. I had 75 meters of broadband cable rounning up and down the house to different computers...

So stripped it all out and got it wireless through out. Fanastic. Sitting in Garden right now with a glass of wine on the internet on me laptop. SPOT ON. hehe

I tried scanning the area for other wireless networks! hehe. but cant find any to connect to. Computer guys... If some one in the next house had a reciever and scanned for networks... could they log ontop mine? cause it transmits like 100 meters?

No i dont.

I didnt even install any software on the lap top. I put the card in the side, clicked internet explorer and its network detection thing just logged on automatically. So i assume anyone can? Cause its transmiting 24/7 aint it?

yeah, u should get some sort of security set up, unless u don't mind that other ppl can gain access.

Ah what programs would you suggest?

Does this mean if i take my lap top else where i could scan for other networks?

You can set specific IP addresses or even MAC addresses in the router itself.. that way nobody external can hook up smileys/smiley17.gif

Wireless broadband does rock!!

hmmm.. There really wasnt much of an instruction book to the router or cards...

i think if u direct the browser of 1 of ure machines to the ip address of the router, u should be able to change the settings there.

if you have a wireless router you should have built in

fire wall's to stop people connecting on your system

you might have to check on that one
