boot neons

hiya gutys a few weeks back i tried to wire up 2 12inch neons into the boot light. well basically got it all working but when i routed the wires under the carpet to the front wher the switch is mounted the lights didnt work!! they dimmed up a lot and virtually went out. anyway when the wires were removed form under the carpet they became brighter. i think there may be a short but have chcked all of the wires! any ideas?? help wuld be much appreciated. thanks :y:

definately sounds like a short or break in the wire mate, best thing to do is take them out and just wire them up to the battery to see if there ok a 6 volt battery if you have one will be a bit safer but shouldnt harm them being on the battery to just test them

maybe its just too much resistance? a slight movement on the cables can sometimes alter resistance, or like you say could be a short. and if you still have the boot light wired up, try disconnecting it.
