View Full Version : Slicks...
Are slicks advisable to run on a sax or will i start snapping things? Im thinking more for the drag strip than the track.
Thanks ;)

might have issues with the old driveshafts if the engine is fairly modified or if you're running HUGE wheels. but it wouldnt be a instant failure just some increased stress on the components.
so if the runs are few and far between i wouldnt worry too much.
Sweet :P I was thinking 14s as ive seen part used slicks in that size go for peanuts on the bay.

wouldnt a bad combo actually. small rolling circumference and grippy tyres... you might have issues with lack of contact patch (smaller tyre width) but that can be resolved with a few practice runs.
oh yeah they'll probs need a bit of heat in them and all.

To be honest, I had seen posts about these in the past and the conclusion was that the saxo wouldn't be able to handle the increased forces exerted onto the components by the slicks.

im sure it can but may need a fair bit of tweaking to strengthen a few areas.
For the dragstrip you really want super soft slicks as you need to get heat in fast. Small diameter wheels will help.
Things off the top of my head that will need upgrading: suspension arm and antirollbar bushes - pretty simple task.
But the killer is that the transmittion will take a pounding. Your clutch at minimum could do with upgrading to a race compound otherwise it will slip. Your gearbox could do with an upgrade to strengthen the thing though there are different methods to doing this.
Driveshafts could become an isssue though I don't know how strong they are as standard..
Thanks guys, Yeah i think i'll do some up grading first as theres nothing worse than driving all the way to the pod then wrecking the car and not running lol
Ive had a look on the site but is the anyone really into dragging? I cant find any. I guess some semi slicks would be ok for the track though without breaking anything?

even with semi slicks this can put a lot of strain on the clutch. Certainly our 205 Rallye struggled
Serious? I ran them on my last evo for 7 laps round combe and all was well. I guess a clutch isint a big deal to upgrade though. Thanks for the heads up mate :)
