you can get fibre glass kits from halfords or BNQ which ever floats your boat really ive never done fibreglass before so dont ask which is best kit to get.
Predator_R32
12th July 2007, 14:55
i got my fibreglass kit from ebay, the kits range in sizes 1 - 6, for what you want id get number 4 or 5
think the place is called composite supplies on ebay, juts search for fibreglass kit :y:
MickMc
12th July 2007, 14:57
Yes was on that lol , will it be anuff to for 2 subs and an amp rack
Predator_R32
12th July 2007, 15:11
how big is it going to be exactly, have you seen min, like that or bigger??
i got kit two for my doorpods and have a load of fibreglass matting left, so kit 4 or 5 will be ample enough, always best to buy more, if its not enough you can always by extra matting or resin and hardner from him, but should be enough in kit 4 or 5,

12th July 2007, 16:52
must have gone. My bad:oops:
MickMc
12th July 2007, 19:10
Well i was going to do it the same size as the boot (floorwise) but then decided not to as it will be hard to remove nevermind put it in in the first place lol so i think the base will be the size of a sheet of MDF from B&Q lol which iirc is just over a meter long (120cm x 90 cm i think)height wise , it will be underneath the parcel shelf
MickMc
12th July 2007, 22:09
well ?
Predator_R32
12th July 2007, 22:13
calm down lad :p
well what?? the full boot in fibreglass??
MickMc
12th July 2007, 22:16
Lol well what i said in that first post up there , i'm going to get the materials tomorrow lol so was wondering if that would be ok
Predator_R32
12th July 2007, 22:24
yeah should be ok, not entirely sure what your on about like, are you on about your ideas or the fibreglass kit??
MickMc
12th July 2007, 22:27
Both lol , will it look ok with the install not the same size as the boot floor and would kit l or 5 be enuff to do it lol
Predator_R32
12th July 2007, 22:47
yeah get number 5 should be ample mate, can use it to do a few more things like doorpods and pillar pods if your up to it
but some rubber gloves too, i know you get some with it but there cheap and you will go through a few :y:
djrem
12th July 2007, 22:51

Good for smaller installs.
Full Show install

What does the car look like. If its standard looking then id just get a box and bolt to a mdf floor. If your building a show stopper then go for the crazy fiberglass install
MickMc
12th July 2007, 22:55
Car is pretty much standard , but i do like my music lol , i'm looking to do something like that show install , subs at either end and amp in the middle
Martinsaxo
12th July 2007, 23:03
Im sure i remember Predator, you done a fibreglass boot instal guide? correct me if i am wrong though :P
Martin.
Predator_R32
12th July 2007, 23:06
no mate havent done any fibreglass guides mate, i used scotts guides :)
well for the pods anyway, i bought the install as it was dirt cheap on ebay, 150 delivered for false floor and boxes etc, but trimmed it myself :)
Martinsaxo
13th July 2007, 00:10
Ahhh right, dont know why i thaught you had done one, just thaught you did lol :y: :P
Martin.
Predator_R32
13th July 2007, 00:21
i was going to until i seen that on ebay :) thought to myself it would of cost about that much to buy all the materials anyway well about 100
Martinsaxo
13th July 2007, 00:58
Yeh too true, and you saved yourself alot of effort and time i supose :y:
Martin.
MickMc
13th July 2007, 11:51
Ryt went today and ordered all the materials and is going to be delivered on sunday :P , was just wondering if i should make my own speaker rings or buy pre made ones , and also what filler to use after i have fiberglassed it ?
Predator_R32
13th July 2007, 14:51
make your own mate, its not that hard to do :y:
filler you can get it from anywere, i bought some easy sand stuff from ebay its good stuff :y:
MickMc
13th July 2007, 14:53
Ah lol , i'm in 2 minds now whether or not to do a fiberglass install or just make a sub box to house the subs
Predator_R32
13th July 2007, 14:59
lol its easy mate honestly, just need some really stretchy material to make things a hell of a lot easier, use doweling to get the mdf ring sitting right, glue gun it all in place onto some more mdf on the back or sides etc, then drape the material over and staple in place, resin it, apply about 3 - 4 layers of fibreglass, sand, filler, sand primer trim or paint :y:
MickMc
13th July 2007, 15:10
Lol , well i ordered a 8ftx4ft sheet of 18mm MDF and some 15mm doweling would that be enuff lol , and what kind of stretchy material , tshirt or bed sheet ?
Predator_R32
13th July 2007, 15:25
you can actually buy proper stuff would be best to get it all covered with one sheet, but a tshirt would do
something like this, its like a fleecey material, you can probablies get it cheaper if you look about
http://audioscape-essentials.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=46&products_id=184
MickMc
13th July 2007, 15:47
I'll go to halfrauds and brown bros tomorrow to get the rest of the materials and then make a start on sunday when the mdfs delivered :D , any links to some decent filler on ebay ?
Predator_R32
13th July 2007, 15:53
this stuff is good :y:

MickMc
13th July 2007, 15:57
I'm on a tight budget lol got about £30 max to spend on the resin , matting and filler lol
Predator_R32
13th July 2007, 15:59
you can buy smaller tubs from halfords like, any will do tbh, but its had good reviews and thats the one i used just a different name now
try and get the easy sand stuff if you can
do you know how to mix the filler and resin??
MickMc
13th July 2007, 16:03
Well this will be my first time using it but i have red that you add about 1-2% catalyst of the amount of resin you use lol if you get me
reevesy_vtr
13th July 2007, 16:03
a company called Select Products do a set of training dvds LINK......... (http://www.selectproducts.org.uk/Default.aspx?catmain=13) these will tell you every thing you need to know also you wont get better resin and materials from them but they do come at a price.
MickMc
13th July 2007, 16:10
Jesus :shocked:am only wantin to make 1 install , not open a shop , £33 odds for a dvd
reevesy_vtr
13th July 2007, 16:23
not cheap but will be the best way to know what you are doing. i am getting the whole set soon.
MickMc
13th July 2007, 16:25
Lol seems fairly easy to do but , i'll just take my chances , probably do a how to guide aswell
Predator_R32
13th July 2007, 16:29
ok the way i do it is, 500ml of resin to about 2 - 3 capfuls of hardner, add more if its cold, mix it up till it turn a different colour, yours will probablies be an orange colour
the filler is a golf ball sized amount to a pea sized amount of hardner :y:
MickMc
13th July 2007, 16:34
Ryt lol , would you say this : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fibreglass-Resin-kit-Size-5-Glass-Fibre-repair_W0QQitemZ220098020580QQihZ012QQcategoryZ152 71QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem would be enuff to do it , and when i'm going to paint it when its finished , i like the look of that alfa romeo colour kind of bluey green looks kinda pearlescent , do you think halfords would do that colour
Predator_R32
13th July 2007, 16:36
yes mate it will do the job like ive said before :p stil going to need the filler if your going to paint it, will need a lot of prep before painting
MickMc
13th July 2007, 16:40
Yes lol , on sunday and monday i will be constructing and fiberglassing it , i will be painting it in the end but over the comeing week i will use a few hours each day to filler and sand , do you know the name of the paint i'm after ?
Predator_R32
13th July 2007, 18:05
no mate i dont lol, get a pic of it
MickMc
13th July 2007, 18:46
I've just google and found theres a paint called "TWO TONE
GREEN-BLUE LORD" paint code - AR230/AR438 but i'm not sure if halfords stock this
Predator_R32
13th July 2007, 23:58
go onto a1autowise and give then the code they will mix the paint up, or halfords can do it, they dont do a great match but your not exactly needing an exact colour match as your car aint that colour, that a1autowise will get a great match there about 13.99 a tin though
Scott
14th July 2007, 00:33
im still confused as to what is not covered in the premium guide, what else would you like/need and i will add to the guide?
MickMc
14th July 2007, 08:04

Ryt i'm looking for a new amp to power 2 12" JBL GT4 subs , seen a few and was wondering what would be the best
Boss Audio 850Watt (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=016&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=260139242062&rd=1&rd=1)
One Of The JBL GTO Range Or A Magnet "The Rock" 1000 watt amp
Predator_R32
14th July 2007, 15:12
whats your budget for the amp mate??
that boss one is crap
mattchewone
14th July 2007, 15:31
Can i ask how you make the speaker rings?
Predator_R32
14th July 2007, 15:33
i just used a jigsaw mate cut the middle part out first then cut the outer bit so you have a ring, you can use a router though, well if you have one
MickMc
14th July 2007, 16:03
whats your budget for the amp mate??
that boss one is crap
Not alot lol , thats y i said those ones , probs £60 max thats inc. delivery
Predator_R32
14th July 2007, 16:13
only thing you can do is hope some decent ones come onto ebay, your not going to get a brand new amp for that money though to power those subs
MickMc
14th July 2007, 21:10
Ok , have the chance of a

high level & RCA inputs
What would be the best to go for ?
Predator_R32
14th July 2007, 21:18
out of those the magnat one but tbh id much rather look about or save up a bit more for a decent amp, id say you would need a good 50 - 60 quid more to power them subs
MickMc
14th July 2007, 21:23
Lol well i've not got a job and i dont start back college till september so moneys pretty tight lol
Predator_R32
14th July 2007, 21:39
well why dont you have a look on ebay mate, them amps are crap, ive had a legacy amp and it was crap, thats why i stick to the decent makes such as JBL, Alpine, kenwood, pioneer, PG, Genesis i could go on lol
anyway if you want have a look and then pm me before you bid and ill tell you if its ok
MickMc
14th July 2007, 22:08
Will A KENWOOD KAC 6203 2 CHANNEL 600W AMP be ok
MickMc
15th July 2007, 18:57
Cant be assed fiberglassing it now lol , so it will just be gettin covered when its finished , this is what i got done today :p , the subs will be facing at an angle , not straight on or facing each other , with the amp in the middle , what yous think
Predator_R32
15th July 2007, 19:31
looks ok for now mate, are you just doing the angle of the boxes in mdf then ?? will look like mine a bit
that kenwood amp is no where near powerful enough for them subs mate, you need 2x250 rms that amp is 2x150 rms, underpowering a sub is just as bad as overpowering one
MickMc
15th July 2007, 19:38
Yer they will sit at the same sort of angle as yours :P , bought that magnat amp , red on talk audio that there a good budget brand
Predator_R32
15th July 2007, 19:41
hmmmmm i wouldnt say they were the best budget amp but it will do the job till you can get a better one, i had a legacy one before and never lasted long, thats why id rather spend that bit more on a well known brand
