Also , when i had a look at it today only the drivers side opened with the central locking , the boot had to be opened using the key and you will probably need to open the passenger side from inside , is there anyway this could be fixed ?

Hi mate, I had to fix my crankshaft sensor on my old 306. It cost me about £35 and i fitted it myself in about 2 minutes. Its a simple swap over plug. Get a Haynes manual, it will show you exactly how to do it. My sensor was located near the front of the engine i.e near the front bumper.
Cheers

You won't be able to start the engine because the crankshaft sensor is like the part on the engine start up. Until thats fixed your not going to be able to start it. You should be able to pick a sensor up from a local car parts shop. May have to order it in for you though.

Did you unlock it with the key or the fob??if you used the key it might just be a blown fuse mate.. F8 20 amp http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63144

Crankshaft sensor looked a bit like that (although hard to tell ) on my vts- i cleaned it and put it back in while trying to sort another problem.
