Just been to the Garage to get my lunch. Opened my door to get out (all the way). Got out of car and tried to shut the door. Seemed almost stuck open but wee bit more force and it closed with a huge cracking sound - not creaking. Had the creaks before but WD40 solved that problem.

Have had a quick look from inside as door opens and shuts and doesn't look like anything catching (although that's what it sounds like). Sprayed some wd40 on it and I'm gonna have a better look after work at 4.

Any ideas guys??

Ditto, my passenger door & the gf gives it a right beating when she closes it aswell but it still seems to work fine + the noise ;)

this is a prob with check strap. I got mine repaired with welding, but you can replace them

I;ll have a closer look later. I'll throw some WD40 at it again - normally cures all problems like this..

SORTED!!!

Right, got home, and had a proper look at this.

Tried opening and closing it to see where the sounds was coming from but was hard to figure out.

I could see the back of the vtr arch panel right next to where the door passes on opening/closing and thought it may be catching. Took a spanner and started to apply force to bend it back. This is here:

But still no good. Looking from above - it was well clear of the door and couldn't be doing it, yet still thecrack and locking open.

Sprayed shitloads of WD40 and still the locking/cracking thing.

Kept opening and closing the door to see on the door hinge a lot of movement of the screws above and below the hinge. Ran over to the passenger door and this side was solid.

Round back to the drivers and tightened that fxxker back in, followed by a heavy dosage of wd40 and sorted.

This is the culprit:

If you have the same problem - use a 10mm spanner to re-tighten and lubricate.
