Just upgraded to premuim member so i can look at some of the guids.

I'm wanting to spray my wheels black or white, perhaps this weekend if i finish early on friday, think they could be done by monday?

Should i leave them overnight between primer drying and paint? Same with the paint/primer?

Also a mouse sander, one of the small headed ones about £15 ish. Is it worth getting one of the to speed it up abit and make it abit easier?

I'll wait and see about filler etc if it's to be used when i can veiw the guide section.

Cheers.

word of advice, dont rush it.

Im doing a set just now and done them over a weekend, Im not happy with them at all, now im starting from scratch doing it the right way.

Best piece of advice I have had is - "Take as long as possible doing the prep, because it will be all worth it in the final product and use a tonne of lacquer"

I done a search mate, looked at a guide and saw someone said there is an ace guide on premuim forum.

Thanks TheKore. I've sprayed my side strips on my old car done the prep work well. I'm thinking if i get the sander thing it will make it faster/quicker.

Recon i could do it over the weekend then?

heres the link mate for the premium guide my bro wrote, however you may not be able to access it as under your username is says established member not premium member

as for doing the wheels its all about prep work, i spent hours and hours sanding mine, if the wheels are a bit of a state then an electric sander mouse is usefull, firstly start with 240 grit paper then work you way down to 1200grit. apply three coats of primer allowing 15mins per coat minimum then leave it for 24hours before applying paint. then do the same with the paint leaving it 24hours before laquering, then leave the laquer as long as possible i would suggest atleast 2 days to fully harden, you will be able to fit them back on your car after 24hours if your carefull so you can start on the next wheel, but leave at least 48hrs for the laquer to harden before driving on them

Seen as you know what your doing, chances are you could. And any electrical tool will speed things up, but will it fit into the corners/cracks etc?

I expect its the VTR rims your painting, aye?

Cool mate, look now i'm premium, looking at the guide now, cheers.

I would do 2 at a time mate, would prob have to put wheels on after 24hrs. Unless i don't have to use my car on Monday as i could have a funeral.

Yes, vtr wheels mate. Also do you cut the paper and someone stick it on? Or do you buy packs that fit on? Got a pic of your wheels you done mate?

it took me two days to do my old "S" rims but that was with a mint set of rims so not much filler was needed.

if you doing it with tins then your going to need alot.
the sander will be pointless imo becasue of the shape and grooves of the vtr rims. if you do it by hand theres more chance of getting an even surface.
as thekore said use plenty of laquer.

the prep work took me a day to do with wet and dry, try and sand back to the metal and then use etching primer (primer for metal) then normal primer.

imo do the following:-

-do the prep work
- etching primer, at least 2 coats per rim
- normal primer, at least 2 coats
- paint, at least 4 coats per rim
- laquer, as much as you can aford, lol

its better to do them in a warm dry place to assist with the drying, or get a portable heater to heat the room up.

hope that helps

i used a triangular shaped electric sander, halfords then sell different grit replacement pads for a couple of quid, definately worth it as it saves your hands a bit lol

Read somebodys guids. Its very easy to do, i've done a set before and to make sure they dryed ok I left them for a couple of days inbetween primes/spray/laquer and they came out quality.

i like my white ones as they are a bit different, loads of people have dark wheels, having said lots of people now seem to be doing them white, one thing with white wheels is that they are a mofo to keep clean. go for a dark gun metal like mattwesty vts rims then smoke your headlights etc, it will look mean

go for white, but as said above they are terrible to keep clean

furio_morgan
