Hi! I bought last August a Saxo 2003 to my daughter with only 34.000 km's and now 39.600 km. Last week I studied the car and there is a noise on the 4th and 5th gear between 45 and 75 km's/h and not on the other gears. The sound comes with the power on and goes off with higher speed. Does anyone know this problem?
Of course the local Citroen service has never heared about this before as usual.

Is it a whistling type of noise?

Is it a whistling type of noise? Yes it is! It's something to do with the bearings, maybe? The noise is similar like I had very long time ago a Cortina GT and the noise of the rear axle. It was a resonance noise cause of the bearings and poor contact of the gears. It's not the noise of MGB gearbox on the 1st and the 2nd gears. The frequency is changing with the speed..low speed You can hear it better and after 75 km/h it will disappear..but I believe and I can hear there is still a noise.

So what your saying is: you are going along at speed 30mph and above, you accelerate and no noise, but as soon as you let off the accelerator you get a noise? is it almost like a ticking noise?
If that sounds about right i think i know what it is

A whistling type of noise is common in the higher gears, normally 4th and 5th, and this happens to be what you have. I think it's unlikely to be bearings, but you can't rule it out completely. I think it might be something like worn teeth... Anyway, have you checked the oil level?

Hi! I listend the gearbox this morning. The whistling sound starts also on 3rd gear in 35 km/h and will disappear in 70 km/h. There is no leaks under the box or the engine. Where this comes from? Can it be the dirrerential?

You know the common noise you get when reversing? Well, often if the diff is in bad shape, that reversing noise gets much louder.
I'm not sure I'm afraid...

Oh right, not what im thinking then. Maybe change the gearbox oil and see if it makes a difference

I'll change the oils first and let's see .... Has anyone used those "magic oils" in the gearbox?
