We have a minor dilema regarding the tailgates. What should I keep! I can remove the plastic part that houses the lock and numberplate lights or
smooth it all in or
make a separate carbon part that can be bonded on after if the buyer wants

What should I do lol

Heres a picture for reference:

well if you smooth it all out i think you will be limiting the market of who you will be selling to, just my opinion but when they are all smoothed out the buyer will have to have some sort of solenoid to open the boot and will have to relocate the number plate and lights somewhere. i would personally make a seperate mould for the lock part.

hope this helps you out.

Will you be supplying a rear window with the boot...? or are people going to have to get them there self's...

I'm popping down early next week to see how everything is progressing so i'll come back with some set prices and a better idea of when everything will be ready :d
Can't wait!

you could just supply them without the boot lock panel and then people use their own. Either use a black plastic one or get one sprayed black.

All these things will put the cost up dramatically tbh and limit your potential market.

btw - I have the money waiting, either for a cage or a tailgate. Whatever comes first :)

like the idea of using your own if its cheaper then deffo worth it, errmm going to get us some pics whilst your there kam?

KamRacing
23rd July 2007, 19:05
good idea. I might get a mould made for the bootlock bit if its cheap but otherwise not worry for now as its bloody expensive to get moulds made anyway!

go on then Kam having spent time in the busines sureley you should know a rough price of what these are going to go for matey, and you going to get pics?

If i get the MK6 fiesta then im certainly turning the 1.1 into a track slag haha! ok ok its a 1.1 but will have a VTR dropped in lol!

You going to be keeping these under 600 notes?

When I put my business plan together for the bits I wanted to make in carbon I would just about break even at £600 if I sold 20!!!!!

I know it's not a cheap thing to do but I'm sure you'll make sure the quality is spot on, and I'm sure a lot of people on here (with the funds) will pay a premium for a better quality item

Edit - I would just make the standard tailgate without any of the trims.
