I went in to a NHS dentist for emergency treatment last tuesday, I had an abses on my lower right jaw, pain was to much to handle.
anyway, gets into the dentist and he says that he is going to pull the tooth out there and then, I thought you shouldn't pull a tooth while there was an infection below it.....but could be wrong, so i let him pull it!
He pulled the tooth, two days later (thurs last week), my face swells up like a football, infection has spread into my right eye and lower right side of my neck, (taken loads of pics BTW)
went back to the dentist and he perscribed a course of antibiotics...
Weekend came, no change, woke sunday to find it had swelled even further, went straight to A n E in hull, after waiting 4 hours they turned me away and said i had to consult my dentist...
Went back to the dentist Monday, told him the antibiotics had not touched me, he perscribed some stronger ones which make it difficult to got to the loo, i feel off my face constantly and its still swallen today ( a week and a day on from the original extraction)
I'm in constant pain and look like the elephant man, I have rang round numerous dentist practices and thay have all said he shouldn't have pulled it out.
Do you think i can claim?

You know what Clo, When i went back to dentist monday my dentist (C.Gill) was baffled, he didn't have an explanation as to why my face had become majorly infected...
He called in two other dentists that work in the same practice, I explained that i was in more pain than they could possibly imagine, then the other dentist decided to ram his thumb onto my infection has hard as he could...
I scream "FUCKINHELL", the dentist then said to me, please dont swear there are lady's present, I could have strangled him!

My god. I would actually try my hardest to claim, but for now i would get ya butt to hsp, if its that bad. Its been a while and it hasent gone down, and it looks athough no1 actually gives a sh*t at your docs. If it gets more infected what are you going to do then?!

In my experience, you're extremely unlikely to win any claim for negligence given the circumstances outlined above.
Personally, i would stay clear of "no win no fee" types who, for the most part, are a disgrace to the legal profession. If you really feel aggrieved, your first port of call should be to lodge an official complaint - your surgery will have a procedure in place for you to do this.
I would question the validity, and indeed integrity, of any dentist that told you that they would have done differently without them having the full facts, and dental notes, available to them.
