jsut been out with my mate in his starlet 1.3 turbo, its rapid and completely standard, standard exhasut, standard filter, standard boost, everythign standard, he had it rolling roaded at 129bhp, jsut cant belwive how quick it was it was even pulling away from me in my astra 2.0 turbo 200bhp, he also beat a type r and a focus st as thats all he raced. pissed me off abit as my car is 0-60 in 6.9 his is 7.6 and even when we were past 60mph u would have thoguht a 2.0 would pull more but his still pulling away from me

Starbo's are quick little cars for real.

Was it the gt turbo or the glanza?

stevenet15
26th July 2007, 21:48
duno mate its jsut a starlet 1.3 turbo, think it had glanza written on it somewhere from what i remember but cant be sure, whats the difference?

As far as I know the gt turbo is the more hardcore version so to say. It's the older stye ones. Like J reg. Glanzas are the newer more rounded versions think it was N reg onwards roughly.

Don't know if there's any mechanical differences but I've never looked into them much.

But I do know standard they are fairly quick, especially for a 1.3 and must have potential since it's a jap turbo hot hatch!

Sounds interesting! Sure that RR wasnt atw :P
Standard glanza hp is 135 and the GT is 133, The only difference between the 2 is the glanza has a slightly different turbo :y:

p.s starlet 0-60 is 6.9

I think he's fibbing that its standard then if its pulling away from all those cars.

it is only standard, the only thing he has had done is the speed limiter taken off as the engine cuts out at 110mph so he had a specilast remove the speed limiter sopftware and he said its completelt standard map and boost

They are rapid motors and weigh nothing at all. Still thourght a 2 litre would pull away after 60 though.

mattc
27th July 2007, 07:31
Glanza looks like a micra from the back...

Can he turn the boost up and down or is it just the standard low/high settings like on alot of starlets?

Getting alot of power out of a 2l scoob engine wouldn't be too much of a problem, but surly getting that much power out of a 1.3 can't be good for it lol

I was out in kingkarls new car, his RSI, on a saturday and we pulled up at the lights against a punto 1.4 gt at the lights and it absolutly FLEW!!!!! I'm talkin seriously quick. At the next lights we was like 'errr yeah so whats in that' and he said 'nothing its standard i just put the boost up as high as it can go' like, silly amounts of psi lol... Haven't seen it about on saturday nights since then, i'm guessing it probably blew up being a fiat n all... What i'm saying is can get alot out of a turbo^^ lol waffle waffle

They are pretty rapid motors! You would of owned him though if you'd kept going to naughty speeds! They run out of puff at around 100 iirc. My mate in his rsturbo was commenting how rapid they can be, his rs is around 210bhp!

Glanza = Jap Import

Star Turbo = European/UK version.

They are lovely little monsters and affordable as a first car too, which is unbelievable.

glanzas are much nicer than the gt models imo.

my mate is changing everything in the engine of his glanza and from what hes been saying he is hoping for at least 280+ bhp but im just waiting on actually seeing the printout when he finishes it but will keep yous posted as im very unsure on the truth with the work hes done.

I had a GT turbo before this Saxo and LOVED it. Will deffo be getting another one. They are RAPID!! I never got to go up against any Type R's but I wasted a GTI180 at York Raceway Also quicker than a Clio 182, but mine was slightly modified. Would reccomend a one to anyone just awesome awesome cars. I prefer The GT turbo to the Glanza personally.

VTS_16v_Boy
27th July 2007, 11:57
Well they look slightly smaller than a Paxo so thats probally why, how you getting on with the Astra mate? All good?

Any mods yet?

27th July 2007, 11:59
Inside they feel roomier than the saxo. However they are considerably lighter. The handlings not as good. Mine wasn't bad but it had decent shocks and springs and strutbrace's galore!

there stupid for tuning, for example an exhaust system gives 15bhp+
decent air filter is 5bhp+

they gain power really quick with little mods, 200bhp is easy to get with some ££ spent on it..

vtr_driver
27th July 2007, 14:25
AFAIK They were never available here and they're all imports (the turbo versions that is) As for insurance go through a specialist. The insurance on my Starlet was cheaper than on my Phase 1 Saxo VTR when I went through Sky Insurance.

theyre class little cars, my mate had one and it was a wee rocket.
great fun to drive, and sound lethal with some breathing mods and a dump valve.

oh and the glanza is the import.
Gt turbo is uk model.

And not common knowledge to a lot of people,
but the very first starlets were rear wheel drive!
the very very old shape!

We had this starlett GT Turbo pissing over the VR6`s the other night out around our town. The VR6 boys did not look very happy.

Then came another little pocket rocket, Pulsar, my first encounter and that was quick! Think it was the GTi-R version too or just stupidly modified, extrememly loud dumpvalve but was a stunning color orange, like st focus orange but not as piercing

28th July 2007, 12:00
What surprises you guy’s? Is it because it’s completely standard?

Welcome to the world of Jap performance cars.

The Starlet Turbo is a very rapid little car mate, don’t be surprised seeing it have a play with the bigger boys, it can hold its own to 60. With all do respect to the Saxo VTS, I’d rather buy a 1.3 Starlet/Glanza Turbo after a Saxo 1.4/VTR.

no chance my mates starlet pisses over vts's as he showed me the other day, the only way i think one of the vts's could have won is if its was at top speed as they raced to jsut over a ton maybe a ton ten but the starlet runs out of puff at about 128mph so the vts could do it then. plus when he did race the vts's they only kept up a little and that was from a standing start from a rolling start he was pulling away from vts's verry easily

Depends on the driver lol. My mate also has one and its pretty rapid to get to the speed limit! I'm not really sure what it would be like against a vts though although he did beat a vtr when it was a normal 1.3 starlet. ( as he engine swapped it for the glanza )

he must have had something done to it i cant see it beating yours and those other cars you said about! my mate has the older one with a decat and induction kit and is boosting abit highier and i can pull away from him in my cammed vts and i can only pull a little bit type r`s had a race with a 2003 scooby wrx and it was neck and neck! your should be able to beat his! they are quick tho!

ive been out and test drove a fair few of these, (EVEN MANAGED TO BLOW UP THE TURBO ON ONE OF EM!!)LOL
there're quick but i thought they ran out of puff after 75-80.... the handling are not as good as they could be, but still they do shift up to 60mph on the high boost!!

As for beating type-r, astra turbo i can believe...... the glanza's are so light and the type-r and astra turbos are both not the quickest of motors!!

I also think that they are becoming over-rated. They are in the same league as a 106 gti and vts,

++ found my video when i blew up the turbo on a starlet!
