Bought a frontal damaged vtr the other day, it won't start just turns over. The immobiliser light is on, just wondering is there any kind of safety switch of any sort that would come on in a smash and not let car start?

There could many reason for this...try this
1) If you have an immobiliser...turn the key full in the ignition and press 'UN LOCK' button, if lights appear on the dash the start it. (the button you would press to unluck the car via central locking)
or.....
2) Make sure the connection to your battery has no corrosion on it..open up the plugs and clean any dirty or corrosion. Clean with a wire brush or sand paper INSIDE ONLY.
If this doesn't work ...the
3) Get an Car electrician to take alook at your Earth wire to the battery or the starter motor.

I will try that. Can't be an earth wire to batt or starter motor or the engine wouldn't turn over.

The fuel cut off switch would have been triggered in the event of a crash although if the immobilister lights on that will be your next issue.
Near the brake resevoir where the bonnet stand locks into place to hold the bonnet open there should be a big button with a rubber cover on it, its usually red or orange. Push it in & if it clicks then you've reopened the fuel line :)
