do you wee a lot?

urinating more than often is a good sign.

Also use your fathers glucose measuring pen thing and test your blood.

Should be around 7.0
Higher the number, the more sugar you have in your system.

my grandmother was diagnosed last week with type 2 its a life changing illness but if treated with respect can be maintained!!
i work withn people with diabetes everyday and they lead normal lives...the amount of people being diagnosed is rising every year due to the fast food...and all the food additives we are eating!!

Paget

just because you drink a bit more your not going to be diabetic.

before i was diagnosed.
i couldnt keep myself awake.
i drank about 20-30pints a day
constant dry mouth.
had to take a month off colege because of it

yeh it can get serious, makes me sad having to speak to her as i have gone to the doctors to see if iam compatible to donate a kidney which i would have done but they said 1:too young 2:not the correct blood type, she has been waiting 7months for a kidney now

CloVis

Aw thats horrible.
Really brave of you trying to donate like that. Least she knows that given the chance you would.

i didnt even feel pressured to go for it i just had to get the test shes my auntie you know,it would have taken me longer to recover than it would her but i felt a little useless not being able to help!

CloVis

Yeah still its the thought that counts. And I no it doesnt make it any easier, but at least you/she knows your there when she needs you! even if you couldnt help in the way you would have liked..

theres the one where you have too much sugar in your blood and one where your blood doesnt have enough sugar / glucose in it, my grandad has the one where he has too much so cant eat hardly any sugar at all..

id ask to be tested for it, it is inherited through families

I've been diabetic for 20 years. Take 4 -5 injections per day.

Very, very simple way to find out if you are diabetic. Your doctor will do a 2 minute test and will tell you on the spot.

By the way, when I was diagnosed, I had a 5 week stay in hospital, which was great for me cos I had loads of time away from school!!

Before I was diagnosed, I was playing rugby at school, and was so tired and dehydrated that I couldn't stand up. I walked off the pitch and sat down at the side. The teacher rang my mum and she took me straight to the doc's

He did a quick blood glucose test. Was 59 !!! He said I shouldn't even be standing, never mind trying to play rugby.

Straight from the doc's into Children's Ward, where I stayed for 5 weeks, on a drip for 2 weeks, felt soooooo much better after about 3 days but then had to slowly rehydrate and get stable before I could go home.

Made some really good friends in childrens ward.....aaahhhh, happy days!
