Aslong as your temperature light doesn't come on it should all be ok. If that comes on then the car is far too hot and your more than likely doing the engine damage so best thing to do is turn it off and let it cool.
My car got hot the other day while i was standing still and for somereason my fan didnt cut in. stupid french car. think thermostat might be on the way out, i'll wait for it to die completely before i change it though lol...moneys tight this month :-( bloody insurance

That's because MK2 VTR's have tiny little radiators. They are just not big enough for the job. They are the same size ones you find in AX's. The MK1 VTR's have the same size ones as VTS's which are bigger. But Citroen started scrimping on the VTR when they facelifted it so it got a smaller rad. I used to have the same problem but I upgraded to a VTS rad. Ironcially it was cheaper than a VTR one too lol

Pain in the bum when you're walking away from your car and you hear a loud "WHHHRRRRRRRRRR".
Everyone looks around like it's going to blow up or somthing :P

Lol yeh mine comes on alot 2003 mk2 VTR......only when the car is not moving e.g in traffic.......it just because the car aint getin the cold air that it gets blow at it when u drive along, so the fan has to kick in to keep it cool

if your temp starts to rise open all the vents in the interior and put the fan to full and on hot the temp should drop and fan will switch off, and if not you may have a problem i have done this with a few cars and its usually in heavy traffic
