nothing to do with the name as it all comes from the same place. i think most cars are mapped and designed by using shell petrol .super unleaded is the best to go for tho, think tesco do the highest ron number petrol

standard unleaded petrol is usually 95 octane, where as super unleaded has a higher octane, i think shell optimax and most other companies including sainsburys are 98 octane....tesco is the highest iv seen at 99 octane.

higher the octane basically means the better, more efficient and 'cleaner' that the petrol burns, giving better engine performance.

Provided your ignition times are altered to suit (which they arent above 97Ron on a saxo)

octane rating means , in simple terms, how much 'resistance' a fuel has to being detonated... higher the octane the more 'resistance' a fuel has.

Shell I've found gives me the best results...

Well I had the VTR, I found that the Total fuel was rubbish and Shell was far the best.

performance i doubt you'll see a difference but in terms of mpg and that you can and will notice a difference.

when i went to cornwall i had to put shell in. I found shell made my car nippier. i'm sure i was probably just imaging it but hey, lasted well too though.

in my vtr, theres no change in mpg or speed , what ever petrol i use, get around 38 mpg, what ever

in my first car, fiesta 1.25 , if i used total petrol, i got an extra 20 miles to the tank!??
