My grandad just came back from a fishing trip to france...
Didnt catch alot.. infact only caught 3 carp... all weighing over 40lbs! they were monsters!
My dad had a 19lb out on the weekend!
I used to be really into it as we have some good waters in south wales area... but have been in a few years tbh

Used to be into it until 400 quids worth of kit got broken in one weekend in random situations, kinda put me off. 2 Small 30 quid poles, a 120 quid 9m pole with some expensive elastic, and my brand new 180 quid Drennan rod which snapped the first time i used it when i had a 2 lb perch on the line and drennan wouldnt fix it they said it was my fault. Its good fun though

I know it was about 2 inches from the tip too. Pathetic.
And pretty good, went to 'plantations' and 'bullocks farms' for some reason they were awesome in the rain. When i was after smaller fish you could catch loads of decent sized bream tench and perch in a small session. The carp were a bit wairy but if you went on a good day then you could catch large mirrors all day long.
Theres a lake down near my house which isnt a fishery, used to have loads of huge carp in it, most of the other fish were minnows so you couldnt catch anything small without getting minnows. But there were some 20 pounders in there, and a 15 pound ghost/koi which was worth shit loads. Then a load of gypsys came and had a party, dumped their cars in the lake and set fire to em and all the fish got killed. Which was nice of em

i go when ever i get the chance, i do loads of fishing, carp, trout, salmon sea trout and sea fishing.
dont get to go much as im away all the time, but its a great way to relax. i like to go to woodlands fishery think its down thirsk way, some where like that lol
i have had some cracking fish out of there and a few other places around the york area.
i spend over a grand a year on salmon club tickets on the tyne, only went once last year!
its dead mans boots, if i loose my place, i need to wait for years just to get in again, so have to pay to keep it going, well worth it tho as we have some of the best salmon beats on the tyne and get some cracking fish!
im going this week when i get home ;) need to chillax and drift off to the special place lol

woodlands is a cool place, they hold a load of big matches there and peeps come from all over to fish. the have about 10 lankes too.
i have about 3 or 4 ponds near to mine, im a member in one and the others just have fish in, no probs fishing them. the carp are massive as peeps feed the ducks all of the time and they bulk up on bread. biggest i have had from the was 23lb on a fooking quiver tip and light line, took ages to get in, its pritty shallow with no snags so i just had to let it tire itself out, we have seen bigger fish in there than that one too.
im thinking of going on a fishing holiday for salmon in russia, you catch 20lbs every other cast and have the chance of 40 and 50lbs +. not cheap, but well worth it ;)

i only ever use bread, corn or luncheon meet for carp. works ever time. normall use poly bags with pellets, groundbait mix and a few bits of corn.
i have had a few on bollies and hallibit pellets but i like corn on a hair rig best. i have had most of my big carp on the set up ;)

i have had my biggest fish of a bit of free lined bread crust, carnt beat that, you just see them pop up and "SUCK", the bread goes, wait for the line to move, then lift into it and hold on lol carnt beat that ;)
yes you can, a 20lb salmon spinning a flying c on a carp road, its like hooking a train lmbo

im on a rig mate. dont carry pics of fish in my wallet ;)
im not really a photo dude, i just like the way it relaxes me sitting there thinking of nothing else apart from waiting for a bite.
give me a chance to stop thinking about nailing dirty birds too ;)
i like salmon fishing as its a strange thing, trying to catch a fish that is not looking for anything to eat, they are not feeding in the river, the are just going to spawn.
lovely surroundings, in the middle of nowhere, standing in the river, casting a line out, the noise of the river and wildlife, its just cool.
also like the fact im like GOD, these fish have spent ages swiming up this river, from fooking miles away, across oceans etc, just to lay some eggs, then die.
i catch one and think, 'hey son, are you worthy enough for me to let you go and fulfil your destiny??' if they give me a hacky look, then they are going home in a bag, if they look sad, i will set them free. some times they catch me in a good mood, some times they catch me in a bad mood. either way i go home happy and feeling chillaxed.
carnt kill carp, maybe thats why i like salmon fishing better?? not sure tbh

Glad in noticed this thread, I am a very keen carp fishermen, infact thats all i go for, the rest on angling is boring, I fish a number of ponds in the east yorkshire area, Hornsea, withersea, aldborough and bridlington, I have attached a few pics for you, best advice i can give you for catching lots of carp is plenty of ground bait, I make up brown bread crum with hemp seep and sweetcorn, few drops of almond or vanilla essence, get plenty of this down in your area and you'll catch...
Here are a few pics, this view is what i see every time ago, time is around 5am in the morning, just in the horizon is the ocean

Few baby carp for you, mirrors and commons, all court and lucnheon meat.

I do a fair bit of fishing... Mainly Match fishing (pole fishing) i used to fish matches and did reasonably well but due to work stuff iv not been a lot recently, allthough i was only yesterday thinking bout getting some fly gear, that way you can fish light, no need for seatbox, bivvy etc just rod, reel, landing net and a waistcoat to keep flys in.
Boz... i sent you a pm, you got it yet mate??

TBH there is no better feeling than watching a floating piece of bread being sucked off the top by a big carp, I love fishing for carp in the summer and pike and barbel in the winter...
We should organize a sax-p fishing trip

Its good to some pics mate your waters look nice loads of reeds for the carp to hide in.Have you tried using pva bags with pellet and crushed bollies and then spod some hemp over the top off as this works really well where i fish at the CDAS lakes.
It would be good to have a sax-p fishing meet but i think we are all to far a part.
EDIT; I will post some pics up later of a couple of carp i have had out this season if your intested?

It would be good but i cant really see it happening as there dosent seem to be that many people in to carp/coarse fishing on here.
Where abouts do you go fishing rob as southampton is not far from me and im wanting to try out some new waters this year?

Olly -
PVa bags are useless mate, unless you fishing with huge baits, I dont use carp runners, I do it the old fashion way...
Light Line, Smallish hook and a waggler, there is no fun in listening for an alarm to beep, I never fish anywhere than the margins, gives you something to aim for and keeps accuracy up when baiting.
As said Olly, all these fancy expensive baits aren't required, just use brown bread crumb mixed with hemp, sweetcorn and luncheon meet, this way you can fish on corn, bread or luncheon meet as this is what you've been baiting up with....

I think it really depends on the waters as if i tried fishing corn or luncheon meat at my lakes then i would just blank loads.I have fished the same lake for a few years now and i have treid just about most things and i find that pva works a treat and not that many people are using them which can also make them work better.Do you fish for big size carp or do you just always fish with a float with light tackle?

Iv been a member of tvac - test valley angling club - we have LOADS of good waters, some you may have heard off??
- Nutsey (40lb mirror)
- Broadlandas
- Embly
- Whinwhistle
- Manor farm fishery
Brilliant for carp/pike anglers but also has loads of rivers and some trout(fly fishing) lakes too.
Hence why i want to get some fly gear, it is soo much easier than lugging all the carp gear around.
Where are you from olly?

Have you got any pics of any carp you have had out???
